A double feature of family-friendly fun
Looking for family-friendly options at a great value? This double feature is perfect for young gamers. We purchased an Xbox 360 last year with the Kinect bundle for family games. Since the Kinect titles were a bit thin, we started looking for regular, family-friendly titles The double feature from Microsoft's Platinum Hits collection is perfect for young kids and an excellent value. Both titles are fun and easy to play, perfect when our sons (ages 8 and 7) want to sit down and rest from all the running, jumping and hand waving required in ,...

Two amazing games
There is so much game time in these two games. If you have an xbox you should have these games. Don't let the bright colors and cartooney graphics scare you off. These games are very deep (especially Viva Pinata). Just take a chance and try them.

Wonderful value
Viva Pinata and Banjo: Nuts and Bolts really deserve more credit than they're given. These 2 family-friendly titles get overlooked by the core-gamer due to their bright and colorful atmosphere, but do not be fooled. These games are amazingly fun no matter what gamer-tier you belong to. If you have the money, then there really is no reason not to buy this combo pack. You will not regret it.

A fun, family friendly game for the holidays!
Well first off, I'd like to say that there has been a concern with the text in this game. I think the points made by others are valid and the issue of small, fast-scrolling text IS being addressed by RARE and will soon be fixed with a patch. The text issue ONLY affects those with an SDTV, HOWEVER if you have an HDTV the text is legible. It only scrolls fast for cutscenes, but in-game, when talking to characters, you have the option to choose when the next screen comes up. The only reason I dedicated this large section just to the text, was because the other people base their reviews on it when the rest of the game is practically flawless. The game doesn't deserve 1 star because of this and it should be higher cause I don't want a review the negate the average score when other parts are superior. Now onto the actual review! The game plays by you building your own vehicles with the different parts you collect. At first the vehicle-building system seems complex and difficult...

Not What You Might Think
The game is somewhat fun, but.... it's not what you might expect from a BK game. The game is basically one challenge after another to win Jiggys and trophies. Unfortunately, but you might like this, most of the challenges are timed races. I was looking forward to kicking back, exploring worlds and finding Jiggys, Notes and Jingos, not having to beat certain times to win Jiggys. The leisure is gone...Even this might not be so bad, except building and choosing the correct vehicles is confusing and the interface is very confusing with different ways to select and build vehicles. The collection of Acts is disjointed and the constant back and forth is frustrating. Expect to see the puzzle loading screen A LOT as you move back and forth between interfaces. And one last thing, which others have mentioned, is the text. This game has TONS of reading and the script is very small and sometimes, scrolls automatically and quickly before you can read what was...

The Lord of Games (LOG) has built many worlds to determine the rightful owner of Spiral Mountain. View larger.
In Nuts & Bolts, a showdown has been set. The Lord of the Games (LOG) has arranged a duel between Banjo and the evil witch Gruntilda, aka Grunty, to decide the rightful owner of Spiral Mountain. LOG, being the creator of all video games, has built a multitude of worlds to host the challenges. Banjo must complete all the worlds to win, while Grunty tirelessly tries to stop his efforts using every method she can muster.

Build it at Mumbo's Motors
The game is loaded with vehicle options to help Banjo pilot over land, water, and air. Parts for vehicles are widely diverse, ranging from your standard engines and wheels to egg guns, floaters, and other gadgets. The Mumbo's Motors workshop makes it easy to create new vehicles. You'll collect different parts by solving puzzles and exploring worlds. Vehicle parts include a wide variety of body panels, engines, wheels, wings, propellers, fuel, and weapons, plus lots of bizarre items like Mumbo Bombos, floaters, and the versatile sticky ball that allows you to create almost anything from a simple object. Once you've finished your ride, customize your creation with a paint job and a suitable name before Banjo takes the wheel and pilots it into action.

Customize, Customize, Customize--or Just Get Down to Business
LOG's worlds are littered with hidden secrets, reward puzzles, and over 100 contraption parts that deliver an almost limitless combination of vehicle possibilities. As you work through the worlds, you'll discover more and more ways to customize and improve your contraptions, creating a surprising level of user-generated content. But even if you don't fancy yourself the greatest inventor or a highly creative craftsman, you can still have countless hours of fun with Banjo-Kazooie's pre-built vehicles. With these at your fingertips you're ready to jump in and get started, and there are plenty more contraptions available for purchase throughout the adventure using in-game currency and musical notes.

Characters, Old and New
Banjo and his best friend, Kazooie, are ready to battle for their homeland and prevent Grunty from developing it into tower blocks and malls. Other familiar faces return as well, such as Bottles, Captain Blubber, and the Jinjos, along with a vibrant cast and crew of new friends and foes. Keep your eyes peeled for Grunty's minions--look out for Trophy Thomas, Piddles, and Grunty's menacing Gruntbots: they'll do anything to prevent Banjo's success.

Nuts & Bolts offers an engaging storyline, entertaining characters, and fun gameplay options. This game offers complete single-player and multiplayer experiences--tackle LOG's worlds on your own, or play with your friends in competitive and cooperative challenges. Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts for Xbox 360 is a enjoyable, challenging game that appeals to people of all ages and types.

Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts delivers loads of customization options, interesting characters (old and new), and plenty of fun, challenging gameplay.

My son got a lot of mileage out of this game
My eight-year old son loves this game! Out of all the games I have bought him, he continually goes back to this one. I have bought him a lot of games inlcuding Lego Harry Potter, Legend of the Guardians, Sonic Unleashed, and Viva Pinata and not to mention all of the Nintendo DS games I got for him. Banjo Kazooie is the best $20 I've spent on him!

Kart racing at it's finest.
Story / Level Design:The racers and stages are all from the Sega universe, not just Sonic's world. It's not an evenly weighted ratio with more Sonic levels available than others. It makes sense since the typical gamer is only really familiar with the blue needle mouse. The tracks are brilliant. The stage designs feel like F-Zero / Wipeout meshed with a high definition coloring book wrapped in familiar surroundings.Controls:The 360's controls are sharp and responsive. The button layout isn't in any way cumbersome or complicated to master.RT = gasLT = driftA = weapon dropDrift through corners to build boost. When airborne, LT again to do tricks.Gameplay:The game engine isn't something completely revolutionary ... it's an updated Mario Kart. Much like the plumber's clones (Crash Team Racing, Diddy Kong Racing, NASCAR Kart Racing, etc), there are power-ups (missiles, stationary bombs, screen...

Love Mario Kart Wii...but Sonic Is Even Better! Here's Why:
Since we got the Wii a year ago, we had Mario Kart from day one and love it! It was probably the premier karting game, so it is nearly impossible to describe this game without comparing the two. I also have not tried the Wii version of the game, but considered buying it.We got an Xbox for Christmas and the trailer for Sonic & SEGA Racing looked pretty fun, but I was torn over getting it for the Wii or Xbox, so I downloaded the demo on Xbox Live and tried it out. My kids loved it, so I decided to get the game for Xbox so that we can race in Hi-Def and play against friends over Xbox Live as well.First of all, the real game is WAY better than the demo! SEGA could have sold more with a better demo, in my opinion. Why is it more fun than Mario Kart Wii? Well, I think the racing action is a little easier on the Xbox controller than the Wii-mote. Additionally, each character has their own unique abilities and "All Star" moves, which are hilarious for some of...

Finally! A Sonic game that's actually good and it's racing to boot!
If you keep up on video games at all, the words: "Sonic all star racing" immediately strike dread, fear, sadness, frustration, or disappointment in your heart. How many Sonic games have promised to bring the blu blur back to his former glory but failed utterly? Racing games in particularly have been hard for Sonic to nail (ironic, isn't it?) with the last two "Sonic Riders" being tolerable but still providing enough frustration and disappointment to be worthwhile entries in the Sonic Hall of Infamy. Apparently, Sonic needs some outside help.Enter Sonic All star racing. Arguably the best kart-racer since Mario Kart Double Dash.-Smooth, precise, controls? Check-Plenty of variety ins racers? Check (with the exception of Big)-awesomely cool, zany race tracks? A Great Game, Not Just for Kids
In Viva Pinata you have inherited a garden in a fantasy world populated by living pinatas and an assortment of odd characters. Your mission is to build your garden to attract pinatas to live there. Everything you grow in your garden, including the pinatas, vegetables, flowers, and trees, can be sold for chocolate coins. You can use the coins to buy more seeds and grow more plants or to otherwise improve your garden. Viva Pinata is like a cross between Pokemon and The Sims and virtual pets, but I found that the result is greater than the sum of its parts! This is a sandbox game of the best sort. You can make whatever decisions you want to and your garden can look however you want. You have the ability to dig ponds, grow grass, build houses for your pinatas, and all sorts of other activities that I am still discovering several hours into the experience. The decisions you make about how your garden develops will determine the kind of pinata who want to live there. The...

Ground-Breaking
Viva Pinata - where should one begin on describing the game's deepest complexities? In layman's terms - Viva Pinata is not just a kid's game. In fact, it requires higher thinking and could easily be problematical to younger audiences. I've been playing this game for a few weeks now, and while I'm not playing it religiously, it's still wickedly addictive. Many people are referring and comparing Viva Pinata to Nintendo's Animal Crossing. While the games are similar in many facets, they're just as different as they are the same. I was never a fan of Animal Crossing, never. I traded the game almost immediately. After all the hype, acclaim and positive reviews, I thought Animal Crossing would be a very safe bet. I was wrong. After reading about Viva Pinata, I thought this would be Animal Crossing all over again, so I approached very cautiously. Again, much praise and positive reviews. So, I took the risk. This time however, it was a purchase I'm more than...

Both sweet and sour piñatas will enter your garden. View larger.

Creating a living garden

It's your very own world. Your choice of contents will determine which of the piñata species are attracted to your world, since they all have individual requirements. Sowing grass, digging ponds, planting flowers and growing trees all affect which of the unique piñatas you will see. It's not just about plants, either; there is a whole range of ornaments and structures that could be decisive. Your reward for creating an appealing paradise is to watch the piñatas visit and eventually reside there, which is where the fun really starts.

Getting to know and understand the personalities and requirements of your piñata is essential if you want them to stay happy and thrive. Make your world their ideal paradise, and they'll want to raise a family and expand your community. Players decide how much help they want from the local guides, shopkeepers and work force. Go it alone or get them involved as you choose. Once you have resident piñatas, you can begin to personalize your loyal community. Piñatas can be individually named and given their own personally designed tag to put on display as a declaration of their home turf. And the customization doesn't end there. You can make the colorful critters more distinctive by customizing them with all kinds of costumes and accessories.

A thriving community awaits

The "Viva Piñata" community is a rewarding place to be, whether you remain within the boundaries of your own world or venture out into the real world or your friend's piñata world via Xbox Live, the first and only global, unified online console games service. Via the Xbox Live online community, players can contact other gamers to lend a hand, lay down a competitive challenge or trade items. Plus, it's not just new piñata species that are drawn to your world; untamed sour piñatas with bad attitudes and troublemaking ruffians do their worst to spoil your creation and must be dealt with. Maintaining harmony within a growing community isn't always easy when rivalries, illness, injuries and even candy-spilling fights occur. If players turn their backs, who knows what their piñatas will do?

Special edition extras

Both kids and adults can break into the two-disc Special Edition "Viva Piñata" Xbox 360 game with added bonuses for the whole family to enjoy. The Special Edition game, available for a limited time, will include playable demos of the season's hottest family-friendly titles and an episode from the "Viva Piñata" animated series. In addition to the "Viva Piñata" game, which will allow players to create their own environment where they can attract and host more than 60 species of wild piñatas and customize piñata-filled adventures in their unique-ever-growing world, the Special Edition "Viva Piñata" game will include playable demos of LucasArts' "LEGO Star Wars II: The Original Trilogy," the arcade classic "Frogger," "Cloning Clyde," "Time Pilot," and "Marble Blast." Also included in the Special Edition "Viva Piñata" game will be a sneak peek at the wacky, zany, anything-can-happen animated TV series, produced by 4Kids Entertainment and Bardel Entertainment. With this full-le! ngth episode of the colorful animated series, Kids can experience Piñata Island for themselves, where multitudes of happy, colorful piñatas live the sweet life.

Highly Addictive Gameplay
When I first heard about this game, it reminded me of Animal Crossing for the Nintendo Gamecube. I never liked Animal Crossing because the game was just a bunch of item collecting.I'm glad to say that Viva Pinata is 100% better than Animal Crossing. You're basically building an ecosystem of pinatas in the game, there are alot of tradeoffs based on your actions. You're even capable of sending items from your garden to people on your Friends list, which is a neat extra feature. To give you an idea of how fun and addictive this game is, I bought Gears of War earlier in the week (one of the best games I've played in a long time) ... and I ended up playing Viva Pinata instead of Gears over the weekend.

BUY BANJO-KAZOOIE: NUTS & BOLTS (XBOX360)

Banjo Kazooie Xbox Live

So I've finally bought a remake on the Xbox Live Arcade of a game that I had never played before : Banjo-Kazooie 2 (or Banjo-Tooie) from the "we made the Nintendo 64 avoid the dumpster" british company Rare. In this one, I had to spend nearly an hour on a puzzle piece, because it implied going back and forth previously completed levels, and thoroughly explore the actual one, find a really well hidden move for my duo, switch to a dinosaur form (yeah... The first Banjo-Kazooie is one of my all-time favorite games on the N64 (and one my all-time favorite platform games, period) and I've been wanting to tackle the sequel for a long time. The series would then evolve to a so-so platform game on the GBA, and to a weird platform/vehicle constructing thingy called Banjo-Kazooie : Nuts and Bolts , which, IMHO is nowhere near the quality of the first game. In the first game, in order to gather puzzle pieces (BK's equivalent of Mario's stars), you had to help NPC characters or complete a challenge, which were varied between 5 minutes of play (in the first levels) to a whole 20 minutes for the more... It may be the biggest 3D platforms game ever, putting Mario and all the other ones to shame concerning length of the game. I don't know if any of you guys have played this game, but it asks a question : Can a 3D platforms game be TOO complicated.
