EXCELLENT MOWER
This is the first major redesign of the Black & Decker 19" Cordless Mower since its introduction. I bought one of the first CMM1000's shortly after it was introduced in 1996. It worked great for 14 years, with only two battery replacements in that time. I gave it to a friend who is using it and it continues to give great performance.The CM1936 has a customer removable battery allowing easy battery interchange for large yards with long grass. My yard is about 12000 square feet and can normally be mowed with one charge. The blade has been redesigned for longer run time. The charger recharges the battery a useable amount in 4 hours.The height of all four wheels can be readjusted in less than 1 second. The run interlock is now a bail bar (like the original CMM1000) which is nicer than the lever on the CMM1200. I wish the new mower had the battery indicator that was provided on the original CMM1000. Perhaps it can be added as a special accessory key...

A Cordless mower that is superior
I bought the cordless electric on the feature that it had an easy removable battery that I could charge in the garage while storing the mower in the outdoor shed. And this mower has that option or you can also charge it directly without removing the battery.Another advantage is the mower handle easily collapses and folds up allowing the mower to be vertically flipped and stored simply on the garage floor in a minimum of space.The rear grass catcher is removed by simply lifting the spring door and lifting up and then replacing is also that simple.The mowing height adjustment was the simplest encountered, squeeze the release lever on the rear wheel while observing the height gauge on the front wheel for the desired height. Could not be easier or more simple.Here's the clincher. The easy out of the carton instructions had you raising and locking the handles, cutting the front part of the carton open and wheeling the mower straight out...

Buyers remorse? Comparison chart / FAQ
We have an earlier generation of this mower (CMM1000) and recently got the Toro. I've studied the specs and this is probably the only other one I'd consider seriously. Perhaps it's buyers remorse or the grass being greener on the other side of the fence but as much as I like the Toro, I wish I'd taken a closer look at the CM1936. CMM1200 Black&Decker Cordless Lawnmower
I just purchased this mower and mowed my lawn today. First, the positives:1. This thing is as-advertised. There's no assembly required other than arranging the mulching bag and removing the mulcher - if that's what you want to do.2. It was incredibly easy to start this thing - insert key and lift lever.3. No mess, no gas, no oil, no air filter. The only maintenance described in the service manual is blade sharpening (once to twice per year) and battery replacement. (Possible two years?).4. Charging the unit is as easy as charging a cell phone and it charged up overnight. It had enough juice to mow my 1/3rd acre lot with heavy spring weeds that were also a little wet without running out of battery juice.5. It was very easy to clean. Just disconnect the key and then you can turn it over to clean the blade and guard without worrying about oil or gas spilling.6. It's easy to disconnect handle and mulch bag...

very easy to use
First, I would like to thank those who posted comments previously. They were very helpful in knowing what to expect when my new B&D lawn mower arrived. I had also previously purchased similar cordless rechargeable lawn and garden tools (a small hedge trimmer and blower) which had reassured me that this electric lawn mower would be a good fit. These items were also manufactured by B&D, so I was familiar with their instructions and packaging - which I have come to interpret as 'the simpler the better'.Let me clarify something - I don't believe that I would be classified as the typical B&D demographic. I am a 44 year old female office worker, with a passion for weekend gardening. I do my own yard work and really appreciate discovering these new tools that make the job easier and faster. Long Term Owner - positive review
Like most of you, whenever I go to buy an appliance or tool on the internet I read the customer reviews to try to get a feel for the product's long term performance before I invest in it. Unfortunately, many of the reviews have been submitted by short term owners who are still jazzed over their purchase and haven't used it long enough to offer a comprehensive assessment of the product. That's why I decided to review this mower now after I've used it for a few seasons.I've had my cordless mower since May of 2004. It is actually the CMM1000, the model previous to the CMM1200. I understand, based on the number of negative reviews, that the quality of design and manufacturing of this product could be considered suspect. Good! Better than previous version.
I purchased the Black and Decker Cordless 24 volt mulching mower (CMM1000) in 2005 and have been using it ever since. When I had the opportunity to upgrade to this mower (CM1836) I jumped on it.I wanted a cordless electric mower to:- Not have to deal with gas and oil- Be able to mow without feeling like I need a shower due to exhaust fumes- Save my hearing- Keep me from re-injuring my right shoulder by not having to pull the cord to start- MulchThe CMM1000 did all of those fantastically for 4 1/2 years for me and the CM1836 improves on most features. I'm really happy to have the newer version. I know I have just barely used this mower and I promise to update this review if anything changes. It's won me over from gas
About 13 years ago I bought a battery powered lawn mower made by Black and Decker (I think it was their first). In many ways it was perfect: quiet, clean, easy to use. It only had one minor flaw that might discourage the user: it didn't actually cut grass. It was more of a "grass brusher", or perhaps a "grass massager" - bathing the grass in a gentle breeze without harming any wildlife, or grass.I'm happy to say that 13 years later B&D seem to have worked the bugs out.I've been able to use this mower three times now and I'm happier with it each time: it's light, quiet, easy to use, and yes, it cuts grass. I've even used it to mulch up small branches after pruning with great results. While not nearly as powerful as my gas mower it actually does a better job of mulching, perhaps because it was clearly designed with mulching in mind. With my gas mower it always seemed like an afterthought. I did put the bag on it once: it switches from mulching to bagging...

Great mower
We have owned the Neuton ce5 battery mower for years. it worked so well we were going to buy another until i saw this 36 volt b&d mower for $80 less.the black and decker is much more powerful and cuts a 18" swath compared to the neutons 14". i took my new b&d mower out and mowed all our lawns and a bunch of weeds in a field and it still had power to spare. the neuton would have run out long ago.the only thing i do not like about the b&d is that you can not take the battery out. it is convenient to be able to take out the neutons battery and charge it in the garage or house.besides that it is a much better deal than the neuton.
