X-grip is an excellent accessory for action video
I bought the X-Grip for camcorder use. It was shipped fast and arrived in perfect condition. I appreciate the simple, uncluttered, straightforward design which was executed with quality materials. Attaching it to the camcorder is swift and easy, and the X-Grip can even be attached to a tripod or other mount when operating the camcorder. The heavy-duty accessory shoe can be detached. The grip of the unit is heavily padded and comfortable to use. Small built-in 'loops' at the top and bottom of the mount can be used to attach additional accessories via zip-ties or other field expedients. The X-Grip is constructed from very heavy duty plastic and is robust enough to withstand many years of service. I heartily recommend this unit to all active videographers who want bang for their bucks.

I highly recommend the X-GRIP
I highly recommend the X-GRIP because it is light weight, sturdy, and at a good price. The X-grip allows me to get really creative angles and shots that are impossible to get hand held. This grip is extremely useful for everyday use and I plan on using it all the time.

A great little stabalizer
For the price it's well worth it, but not for every camera. I have quite a few cameras and I first tried setting it up for my EX-F1. The camera is right at the upper edge of it's capacity and found it hard to get the right setting. I was a bit tired and didn't work at it for too long and thought I just screw in this Aiptek 1080P I had sitting in the drawer and Wow! It took just a few tries at the settings and I was gliding around like a pro around the house. I downloaded the video and was amazed (I never thought I can shoot scenes like that). This may be my favorite setup for a while but of course I still love my EX-F1.I have tried the Merlin Steadicam but returned it after a week of frustration using it for my Sony A1U. Too complicated for a hobbiest like me. It only balanced correctly once (hours of trying and watching the video) and never again, even after writing down all the settings.Some here said the gimbal was too loose, the screw should be...

For 1/8th the price, a good steadycam
The Manfrotto Steadycam is a strange beast. In terms of effectiveness, it is on the low end of moderately effective steadycams. But it also comes in at about an eighth of the price of the next model up, the 800 dollar Merlin. By that metric, it's pretty amazing.The Manfrotto specifically is a handheld gimbal - based stabilizer. It works because you carefully balance the swing arm underneath with whatever camcorder you put on top, so that no matter how you move your hand the camera stays forward and up. Small wrist shakes and other movements are absorbed by the carefully balanced gimbal, keeping your camera steady.This is not an easy thing to do. It will take about 1/2 hour of configuration your first time to get the counterweights and positions right. Furthermore, shooting with a handheld steadycam is a somewhat different experience, considering you no longer have direct up / down control and left / right drifts with the gimbal. Before purchasing this, I tried to look for actual footage of this product being used as a stabilizer; all I could find videos from Manfrotto were actors just holding the ModoSteady, chasing each other around and acting like they were having a good time -- but they NEVER showed the actual results of what they shot. I can see why they avoided advertising that part now.In the "steadicam mode", you DEFINITELY will NOT get a smooth gliding feel. Unless you're moving like a slug, the ball/handle will hit against the corner and cause undesired jittering. (see the beginning of my video). Yes, your mileage will also vary depending on who's operating, the size of the camera, and how well the optical stabilizer itself is on the camera. Very cheap, but solid
When you compare this to other camera stabilizing products out there, you'll see this one is very inexpensive. When I took it out of the box I was reminded that I chose the cheap competitor. You essentially need two things with a stabilizer: a gymbal to allow the system to move, and the ability to balance the system so it won't wiggle and tilt. This product has problems with both of these:The gymbal: The gymbal on this product is not super-smooth, it drags. A good quality gymbal will allow the system to spin for a long time before eventually slowing it to a stop. This gymbal allowed the product to spin less than one turn when I tried it. That's a lot of drag. This means the camera will be turning everywhere my hand turns. Also, the handle has about 10 degrees of movement in any direction before it hits the housing. So the handle must be held pretty much straight up.Balancing: Balancing is very limited. There is no left-right adjustment on the...

Opteka right for the price
Built well, works well, easy to use (takes a little practice, thats all). I'll make comments on the previous reviews...It's NOT too heavy...if this device is heavy for you then start lifting some weights and get some strength (wimp). If you spend $600 then expect the device to spin around a 100X. It has enough movement to provide smooth video. I ran around the house with it and it was beautiful everything I ever wanted for only $65 bucks!!! For those who cant operate it out of the box...get co-ordination or learn to walk/run ....it's easy easy easy easy......Before I was going to purchase this product some of the reviews scared me...I took the chance and was very glad...Works well with my canon xa10 and my tiny powershot s95....jb

Exactly what was advertised
The product I received was exactly what I expected. A very simple, small device to help me keep my shots steady. It isn't that difficult to find the right balance - at least it wasn't for me - but it does get a bit heavy after a while which makes it harder to use for extended shots. Also, I wish it would've come with more instructions as to how to use it, since it only comes with instructions on how to assemble and balance it.Overall it is a good product for its price, and a good buy it you want to make your videos look more professional, but it is not the absolute best solution to avoid ugly shaking of your camera when recording. There are better steadicams out there, albeit bigger, more complicated and more expensive. This is a good starting point.

We use this excellent piece of indie equipment with compact camcorders and DSLR's. An added Manfrotto quick release plate (323) makes it easy to move the camera from MidX to tripod, or to other rigging equipment. As soon as you understand how to balance your camera, using the sliding camera mount and the swivel-able counterweight, it's as easy as having the runner get you a double latte. ;o)The MidX is well designed and made with durable, yet light materials. The black finish is quite strong and everything feels roadworthy. Worth every penny!
This thing is awesome, and before you look at any low star reviews about this consider the following:No matter how much money you dish out on steadicams, they wont work perfectly unless you tinker around and make it to your camera specs. Don't expect to buy this, throw your camera on and be steady! It doesn't work like that.Now this product is rated for up to 2 pounds, I have a 2.6 lbs setup of a canon T2i with a Zoom H4n mounted on top. The weights provided didn't counterweight the rig enough so it flew all over and didn't work. But since my setups so heavy, i just added another pound and a half or so to the counterweights and voila, works like a charm. I'm pretty sure you need to have equal weight distribution on the camera and the counterweights.Best one to get for this price, the gimbal is surprisingly smooth, and the whole thing feels very durable and sturdy. The hand grip is also very well designed and comfortable to hold...

This is an excellent "first bracket" if you're not sure taking pictures on the move is for you but are sure you don't want to drop your camera while you're finding out. Later, if you decide you enjoy shooting this way, it can provide a backup if you want something more expensive or, quite possibly, will continue to serve you well.The attached video highlights many of its features.BTW, I feel that honest, effective reviews, accompanied by detailed videos, can take the place of first-hand experiences that are often lacking in online shopping. Great DSLR Handle, used it on my t3i.
This handle is very sturdy and is much nicer than other similar products. Has a nice and sturdy Hot Shoe mount on top that is useful for setting up either external mic or Flash. Offers great protection for your camera when you need to set it down on the ground. Can also be used on my tripod without having to remove the handle

Make any video easier to shoot.
I shoot a lot of action footage, and holding on to my camcorder in the traditional way is just annoying. It's not conducive to anything other than head-level shots, and it transmits every flinch of your fingers right into the footage.This grip gives you the ability to easily handle your camera from above and behind, or any angle in between. It is essential for shots angled upward or taken close to the ground. Often, I have an LED light attached to the cold shoe mount at the front, and the fairly customizable location of the shoe mount as well as the camera "tripod" screw is very handy. There are three loops to put a strap through, which I already plan on buying, so I can sling the camera over my back when I'm moving around, shooting in areas where I need my hands in an instant.I have two minor complaints.
