I bought this little accessory package for my Canon HF M300 video camera. I like taking videos at my kids sporting events and was attracted to this kit because of the Directional Video Shotgun Microphone." The mic. uses a single AAA battery to power it. The mic. has a switch to select between off, on, and amplified. While the amplified mic works great in picking up distant sounds, it is not directional at all. It picks up sound in all directions, including me breathing behind the camera. I suggest you manually set the mic volume with the camera control to prevent distortion from over amplification. The case is perfect for the small camera and a number of accessories, batteries, lenses, etc.I have not used the screen protector.

Customer Video Review Length:: 5:05 MinsI test the microphone on a Canon HF200 camcorder at the beach with both Ocean and Creek noise in the background. The difference is quite remarkable. Don't turn your speakers up too loud, as the volume changes quite a bit when I go from on board to lavalier microphone. Great lapel mic for the price
The Audio Technica ATR-3350 Lavalier Omnidirectional Condenser Microphone appears to be a nearly identical replacement lavalier mic from the recently discontinued Audio-Technica ATR-35S Lavalier Microphone.Reading some blog advice about video podcasting and playing around a bit with making YouTube videos, "sound" in video is usually the part that makes video quality bad. So I was looking for a reasonably price lapel mic to use. The ATR-3350 is quite inexpensive considering that you can easily spend $200 for a professional model lapel mic.If you read some of the "1" (hate it) reviews from the ATR-35S, they pretty much all related to "low volume issues". You get What you pay for
I received the item fast, and it was well packaged. It is made out of cheap plastic, and may break if not handled with care. It says its a Directional Shotgun Mic, but doesn't work like one. A Directional Mic should concentrate on the sound it is pointed at, every sound around it should not be as loud. With this Mic, every sound is captured. It's just like the built in Mic from your Camcorder, only moved on a bracket. To make this Mic work effectively on your camera, you'll need to adjust the manuel audio controls on your Camcorder. Otherwise you'll distort your audio. I had to lower mine down cause the Mic picks up so much sound. It's like the built in Mic on your Camcorder, only amplified. The Mic is powered by a AAA battery. Only thing why I like it is it's small and can use it as a hand mic. While mounted on your Camcorder with the provided bracket, being that the Mic is NOT Shock Mounted, it will still pick up noise while your handling anything on your Camcorder's buttons, knobs,...

The pick-up pattern of the built-in microphone on camcorders is omni-directional, meaning that it picks up all sounds in every direction equally, no matter which direction you point the camcorder. The ECZ-990 is a 6" long directional, or "zoom" microphone with a super-cardioid pattern (ellipse shaped). It will pick up your subject's sound more clearly, reducing side noises. Decent performance, but too much extra noise
the mic is certainly better than the 'record absolutely everything' mic on the top of my Canon GL2, but there is still a lot of noise 'in the line' and the camera picks up the camera's motor noise even better than the onboard mic (didn't know that was possible). that being said, the audio you get is miles better, especially for recording interviews. It's small, unobtrusive and has two settings (wide and long) and is mostly good at targeting a subject in front of you.the biggest problem seems to be with the mount, which is cheap and really helps the mic pick up the buzz, hum and other undesirable noise directly through the body of the mic. I tried using rubber bands to isolate it, but then I just returned the mic, not worth the grief if I have to 'MacGyver' it right out of the box. I just bought this microphone today from a local video camera store, after testing a number of the other microphones that they had, including the "Canon Directional Stereo Mic (DM 50) for Camcorders with the Advanced Access Shoe", "Rode VideoMic directional Video Condenser w/microphone", and the "Sennheiser MKE 400 Shotgun Microphone".I recently bought a refurbished Canon HV20. I went on vacation with it without testing it, and when I got home, I realized how poor the audio really was. I had read that the built-in mic captured the sound of the tape winding in the camera, but I didn't think it could possibly be as loud as it was. Also, often I'd be talking to someone literally two feet in front of the camera, and found people ten feet behind the camera were louder! Mic doesn't connect :(
In terms of a microphone compatible with Sony's DC-SR68 camera, you will have a hard time finding one that actually works according to the manufacturer. This Vivitar/butterfly photo kit is nice for any other camera that has a standard mic input but most Sony cameras only have a proprietary "AV-R" connection that only seems to be compatible with remote control devices and so you are stuck with the stock integrated microphone. Try cameras from Canon for something that actually would work with this external microphone for any quasi-professional work you might be doing.
