Difficult Decision (30D vs. XTi)
I had the Rebel XT and about 8 lenses and was thinking of getting an upgraded second camera body. So when it came out the 30D was a logical choice, but it was not really much of an upgrade from the 20D, which I resisted, so I was not really sure what to do. Then I had all but decided to just take the plunge and get the 30D when I heard the first rumblings about the XTi.Then I started to learn the details about the XTi, more mega pixels, same auto focus, same screen, picture styles, dust cleaning! The only areas that the 30D won in my opinion were build quality, spot meter, and estimated shutter life. Those 3 categories were not enough to convince me that the 30D was worth $300-$400 more than the XTi especially since the XTi had won or tied in most categories. The way I look at it is that the camera bodies are not nearly as important as the lenses, they change so fast that it is not worth it to me to spend more for longevity when it will be outdated in a year anyway...

Canon Battery vs. Generic
I have been using my Canon PowerShot S30 camera for a couple of years now. When I purchased it, I also purchased an extra generic rechargeable battery pack to go with it. At the time I figured I would save the money and name brands are not always better. Looking back on it, I wish I sould have spent the extra $25 and gotten a Canon battery. The generic battery only lasts about a 1/4 of the time that my Canon battery does. Also after a couple of years of use my Canon is still running strong while my generic battery barely lasts at all. I am now getting ready to purchase a second battery for my Canon for a family trip in September and I will only be purchasing a Canon brand battery.THE BOTTOM LINE: If you are going to be cheap and a penny pincher, then you are going to get a cheap worthless battery. If you want a battery that will keep its charge and that you can count on, buy a Canon battery.

Long Lasting and Dependable!
This battery is long-lasting! I own two of them for my Digital Rebel XT camera!I also (until recently) had the Canon S50 camera and the battery did very well with it!This battery seems to charge very fast too!I think it is well-worth buying 2 of them, but the battery lasts so long that you can easily get by with only one!

Good not Great
If you use AI focus along with an IS lens a lot make sure you buy about 4 of these if you plan to shoot for more than a few hours in a day without recharging. I can get about 1,000 pictures out of two when used with the Rebel XT and battery grip when I am not using AI focus. But with AI activated I have been left without any juice on several occasions. That is why I ordered two more of these, to make sure I can get 3-4 hours of AI focus shooting without having to recharge.

Busch's Guide vs. Lowrie's guide for the XTi/400D
I purchased both Busch's guide and Lowrie's guide to acquaint myself with the XTi.I appreciated Lowrie's thorough explanations of the "bare facts" presented in the XTi's users manual. Unfortunately, I found Lowrie's guide to have a few errors (e.g.; the diagram of the "9-point AF" actually showed only 7-points). Obviously this was missed when Lowe's material was updated for the XTi.Busch's information I found to be very accurate. Moreover, Busch goes into a fair amount of photography theory and shows how the XTi can be used to address some of the basic issues of technique. Describing the XTi's use in this context I found to be very engaging and informative.If you want very good explanations of all the information in Canon's XTi user manual, the Lowrie book may be for you. But if you want to know all the Lowrie information AND and how it relates to the greater context of photographic theory, go for Busch's book.

Canon EOS Digital Rebel XTi/400D Guide to Digital SLR Photography review
This book by BUSCH is better than the one by LOWRIE because it contains pictures of the actual camera and controls, which serve to make it easier to use. It is logical and almost step by step in it's instruction. It covers much of what the camera can do, even the custom functions in detail.It is very straightforward and extremely helpful for anyone who has this complex camera, which can do a lot.I recommend it to the novice or amateur photographer.

I am enjoying this book and glad I purchased it. One it's much easier on the old tired eyes to read than the small little thing that came with the camera, and colored pictures and all. Glad I made the purchase and this one seems to be the best one for the money from my checking out the others.

Great budget priced charger
This charger works really well and was very reasonably priced. It's slightly faster than the charger that came with the camera and it has a fold out plug on the back, so there are no cords to mess with, unlike the charger that came with the camera. This also has the added advantage of having an adapter to plug into your cars electrical accessory outlet (lighter). I have used another version of this for a few years to charge my Canon camcorder batteries and have always had good, reliable results.

The contacts aren't spot on, so you have to maneuver your battery into making contact with the metal on the charger, or else it will deceivingly not charge. Otherwise, it charges just fine. A quick fix might be to put some aluminum foil around the contacts to make them bigger and easier to touch from the battery's point of view.

Upon arrival, I found that both bags were well constructed, well padded, and each included lots of moveable dividers for configuring the inside. Of the two, the Message Bag is, perhaps, better looking due to its slim design and NavyBlue accent. However, after using both, I much prefer the Gadget Bag due to its superior design and utility. For example, both bags have a flip-up cover held down by two front clips. With the Gadget Bag, opening the flip-up cover reveals the bag's interior. With the Message Bag, opening the flip-up cover reveals a zipper which must then be opened to reach the bag's interior. Over time I found this seemingly minor inconvenience to be cumbersome and annoying.I have a Canon EOS Rebel T1i with two lenses and several filters. I keep one lens...
