The best brand of quinoa I've found
The brand you buy matters more for quinoa than many other grains. Quinoa grows covered with a layer of bitter compounds called saponins. You want a brand that's been well-washed so you can cook it straight out of the bag. Beware! Most brands say that they're pre-washed. That doesn't mean that their quinoa won't require yet more washing before it'll taste good. Bob's Red Mill does a great job, with no bitter taste whatsoever, even when the quinoa is cooked like rice in a small amount of liquid. Also, some brands do a really bad job separating the quinoa from the chaff. I've yet to find anything but quinoa grains in Bob's packages. This usually isn't the cheapest brand of quinoa available. But, to me it's worth spending a little more to have quinoa I can just measure and cook, without having to rinse it more or pick out bits of detritus.

Quinoa - Try It !!!
Quinoa is one of the healthiest grains you can eat - and one of the most delicious! It cooks in less than 15 minutes, so you can make a fast dinner using it. And how delicious it is! Mmmmmmm!!!! Softer than rice, it has a slightly sweet and nutty taste. My favorite recipe is to cook it with a small onion, a tablespoon of butter, and a half cube of vegetarian boullion (or a half-teaspoon if using powdered boullion or fresh refrigerated type). Bring the water to a boil, add the onion, butter, let boil for a minute. Then add the quinoa. Bring to boil again. Add the bullion, and turn down to a low simmer for 10 - 15 minutes, and there you go! A fantastic grain that leaves you feeling light and energetic. As for Bob's products, they are always excellent. Amazon's price is very good, especially if you live in a small town or out in the country, where it may be hard to get organic and specialty items like Bob's Quinoa.

Finally tried quinoa to great success
Thankfully, this is prerinsed because the quinoa was too small for my strainer. I steamed the quinoa the same way I steam rice i.e. in a pyrex bowl with boiling water covering it. It was ready in no time. It tasted fine until I added some salt and a spoonful of olive oil. Even without other fixings, this product tasted fantastic. It is definitely suitable as a rice substitute. I had been eating steamed oatmeal for a week and gotten sick of it so this quinoa has turned out to be a great purchase. It took me a long time to purchase quinoa although I had seen it prepared many times on cooking shows because I couldn't tell quinoa from bulgur and couscous. I will probably not bother with couscous because it is a wheat and is less nutritious than quinoa. I am trying to be efficient in preparing nutritious meals more than I am trying to expand my horizons. I am also trying to not aggravate diabetic potential.

an extremely pleasant surprise
So, I started a gluten-free diet about two months ago. I have baked gluten-free bread, but other than that, haven't really tried to replace other wheat products. This was my first try of a gluten-free pasta. I've had quinoa before and really liked it so it seemed like a good bet.Even so, I wasn't expecting a miracle. Even as it cooked and I was tasting for doneness, I was noticing grainy textures that weren't that great. But I kept tasting, and right around the suggested cook time, it smoothed out. I drained immediately and dressed with a really light sauce. There is no noticeable "off" flavor to the pasta and it has a great "al dente" texture. I am confident I could serve this to someone who didn't know it was regular pasta and they'd never think anything of it.

Good alternative to brown rice pasta
I agree with the last reviewer that quinoa pasta must be watched and doesn't store well. It loses structural integrity rather quickly, so add a splash of olive oil to boiling water before adding the pasta, and then stir frequently--the trick is not to let it stick together or it will form a big mass of glue. It's not great for soups and stews because if overcooked, it begins to dissolve. However, in light of all that, I really, really like all the Ancient Harvest quinoa pastas. They are far tastier and have a more pleasing texture than any rice-based pasta.

Intriguing Grain
I finally bought this Quinoa, and it is really good. It is versatile; depending on how you season it depends on how it turns out. For example, it can be seasoned with lemon, pepper, garlic, basil, etc. It can also be seasoned with brown sugar.I am not going to write a long review; the grain itself is versatile enough to make it just about any way you want. And it's easy to prepare. And it's healthful (I'll get into that in the next paragraph). From what I'd heard about the grain, it is "old", "strong", "healthy, "wise" (even has built up a coating that is a resistance to insects). This grain intrigues me; I plan to look up its history.Quinoa (which I recently found out) is what dieticians call a "complete protein". Other than meat products, there aren't a lot of "complete proteins" that I know of, other than soy. I do not eat soy. So I thought I'd give this product a try.

High Mountain Magic. Food of the Gods.
Even though I write reviews mostly on my favorite types of escape novels, I was sparked by Amazon's enthusiasm, to take part in the grocery store and gourmet food expansions here. My first purchase (of products beyond books) included a grain called QUINOA (Keenwa. The product arrived in very good order and within perfect timing. In that maiden purchase I also added lavender and clove essential oils to my shopping cart, along with powdered cloves, and lavender tea. See my Listmania on Essential Oils (which indicates which items I've reviewed) for info on the values and uses of lavender and cloves, available from various vendors here.I consider Quinoa to be the most valuable food available on the planet, a food which meets my standards for luxury gourmet in flavor (and culinary versatility), in addition to being baseline healthy with full-spectrum nourishment. If I had to be limited to only 4 items or food groups (in addition to water, of...

excellent product, inaccurate directions!
LOVE the quinoa, cooks up beautifully, tastes awesome. The only problem I have with this product is the fact that the cooking directions are incorrect. I've been working with quinoa for years, and the standard method is 1 cup quinoa to 2 cups water. For some odd reason, the instructions on the bag only call for one and 1/4 cups water to one cup of quinoa. I thought perhaps this company did something different during the drying process to make cooking require less water, so I tried it as per the directions the first time I cooked it - the quinoa was dry and badly under-done. When I tried again with 2full cups of water, it came out perfectly. The incorrect directions don't matter all that much to me, but for people who've never worked with quinoa before, this could be a pretty big problem. It won't stop me from repurchasing, however, b/c this brand is very economical & the quality of the product itself is perfect.

Better than oatmeal!
I love these quinoa flakes...they are relatively easy to make (I just cook them in the microwave. They have a very unique, kind of nutty taste (I guess like quinoa) and can be made thick or thin. It has the texture of grits or cream of wheat and, like quinoa, is a great source of protein...and it's gluten free. I have served this for friends at a brunch and they loved it. I sometimes put warmed fruit (microwaved frozen berries) in it...and it is a great treat. Highly recommended and a great deal. Also, the boxes came with a very long shelf life, but I am sure that they will be gobbled up fairly soon.

Tasty, Warm and Hearty :)
Ancient Harvest Quinoa Flakes cook up into a hearty hot cereal. They taste great on their own, sweetened or with butter. It cooks very fast, which is a definite plus. Just don't expect a texture like you'd get with whole quinoa. It's more a mush like well cooked cornmeal, but it's higher in protein. For those who can't eat gluten or are allergic to wheat as I am, this makes a great substitute for Cream of Wheat. Actually I prefer the taste of the quinoa flakes.BTW, I was happy to find it here at this price since the few times I was able to buy it at the store it was $5.99 per box.

Great and Versatile Product
When I first tasted quinoa flakes made as a hot cereal, I found them really bland. As I continued making the cereal, I found that this wasn't a bad thing but a completely blank canvas for me to create whatever flavor I wanted. It mixes well with honey as well as a combination of ginger and cinnamon. The quinoa flakes have a great texture, and the amount of water I use determines the thickness of the cereal. I haven't made muffins with the quinoa flakes yet, but there's a recipe provided on the box. For anyone eating a gluten-free or reduced gluten diet, I would definitely recommend this product. It's a great value for such a healthy, versatile food.

Red quinoa
Quinoa is a staple in our household, it has tons of vitamins and minerals, a higher amount of protein then any other grain so it doesn't spike a blood sugar, gluten free, and comes naturally in "two flavors", white and red. i add white to my son's oatmeal and chicken dishes (white has a milder taste), and red quinoa goes better with red meats and tomato/avocado dishes. Although the difference is not significant, it is nice to have a variety.I like Alter Eco brand because it is a fair trade.I highly recommend it to everyone! I'd give it ten stars if i could.

Very healthy alternative
It has a different texture than the white Quinoa....more nutty I guess you could say since the hull around the red Quinoa is slightly thicker. This makes it taste a tad bit different as well which isn't a bad thing at all...but it's hard to put my finger on it though. The thing is, if you like or are used to the white Quinoa, you may welcome this as a good change. You have to cook this a bit longer than the white Quinoa as well to get near to its fluffiness. What happens is that the hulls surrounding the red Quinoa (which the white Quinoa has as well but they are much thinner so it's not noticeable when eating) stay on the red Quinoa giving it that nuttier texture. I don't really care for that (I guess since I'm so used to eating the white Quinoa) BUT I cook it a bit longer than the box says to (about 5 - 7 minutes longer) and it's almost as fluffy. You cook it just like rice in a pot on the stove. I have not tried to cook this in the rice cooker as of yet nor do I think I will...that...

Cooking Instruction Quinoa

This quinoa is gorgeous and the flavors are bright, complex, and downright delicious. Thank goodness on this dark, dreary morning (perfect for going back to bed) we have another guest recipe post  from Passover that is anything but dark and dreary.

In the the summer my preferred way to enjoy quinoa is in place of cous cous (which is cracked wheat - and NOT gf) in a tabuleh salad (typically includes parsley, tomatoes & cucumbers and mint). Quinoa (pronounced keen-wa), is a complete protein grain that hails from the Andes in South America.

Instructions Pre cook quinoa and keep warm. Stir parmesan cheese, lemon zest and a bit more salt and pepper into warm quinoa. Ingredients 4-6 cups cooked quinoa. The lemon zest and parmesan chefs give a richness to the quinoa and really helps bring out the nuttiness that is naturally characteristic if this grain. Serve stark and vegetables on a bed of quinoa, and serve imediately.  In a medium sized heavy bottomed skillet, heat to medium high heat. When skillet is very hot but not smoking, add in meat, season with salt and pepper and slow to sear. Slice skirt steak into thin slices against the grain and add back into skillet. Turn to low heat and allow peas to heat through. Allow 1 tablespoon of oil to melt. 1 tablespoon fresh lemon zest.

This organic red pepper, tomato and quinoa soup is something that I just made up on my own and it is great because it makes about 5 healthy servings and I can take it with me to work all week for lunch. I will admit that I am not the biggest fan of cooking, but what I cook always tastes delicious and it is almost always very healthy. Like many others, during the week, I am on the go from 8am-8pm and in between I don’t have time to cook.
