highly recommended
I found this educational video to be informative, entertaining, fun and even nerveracking at times as I found myself becoming anxious watching the dogs take tests that could make or break them as guide dogs. I watched this video because I was interested in knowing how guide dogs were trained. I learned that and more as the story introduces you to a litter of puppies and then rides you through their journey in becoming guide dogs. I highly recommend "Future Guide Dogs."

Buy Future Guide Dogs
This video was very informative. I was interested in learning more about how guide dogs were trained, and this video definitely delivered. I never knew what an involved process it was for everyone. I love the footage of when the dogs were puppies, and then to see them in action in the last steps of their training. I am glad to know that there are people that devote their time and energy to such a good cause. I am also happy that such a great video was made so that I could learn more. I highly recommend the purchase of this video. You won't regret it.

The Events of One Day. The Story of a Lifetime.
On September 11, 2001, Michael and his seeing eye dog, Roselle, walked down 78 flights of stairs in the North Tower of the World Trade Center and survived. The story of this day is told throughout the book, interspersed with the story of the author's life.As the author states, "The real story, in my mind, isn't how I got out of the World Trade Center...it's how I got there in the first place." (p. xiv.)As I began this book, I was impatient to hear the story of September 11th and was a bit irritated with the interruptions of the story of the author's life; however, the more I read, the more I appreciated this way of telling. The story of how Michael seized life shows the attitude, education and faith that provided a means to cope with this horrific challenge. One cannot be told without the other.Michael never saw himself as disabled, just different. He rode his bicycle around the neighborhood, excelled at math and competed for a job with an office...

Product Description

Faith.  Trust.  Triumph.

"I trust Roselle with my life, every day.  She trusts me to direct her.  And today is no different, except the stakes are higher." - Michael Hingson

First came the boom- the loud, deep, unapologetic bellow that seemed to erupt from the very core of the earth.  Eerily, the majestic high-rise slowly leaned to the south.  On the seventy-eighth floor of the World Trade Center's north tower, no alarms sounded, and no one had information about what had happened at 8:46 a.m. on September 11, 2001- what should have been a normal workday for thousands of people.  All that was known to the people inside was what they could see out the windows: smoke and fire and millions of pieces of burning paper and other debris falling through the air.

Blind since birth, Michael couldn't see a thing, but he could hear the sounds of shattering glass, falling debris, and terrified people flooding around him and his guide dog, Roselle.  However, Roselle sat calmly beside him.  In that moment, Michael chose to trust Roselle's judgment and not to panic.  They are a team.

Thunder Dog allows you entry into the isolated, fume-filled chamber of stairwell B to experience survival through the eyes of a blind man and his beloved guide dog.  Live each moment from the second a Boeing 767 hits the north tower, to the harrowing stairwell escape, to dodging death a second time as both towers fold into the earth.

It's the 9/11 story that will forever change your spirit and your perspective.  Thunder Dog illumiates Hingson's lifelong determination to achieve parity in a sighted world, and how the rare trust between a man and his guide dog can inspire an unshakable faith in each one of us.

Thunder Dog...A Compelling & Good Read
With the events of 9/11 forever etched in my memory, I was eager to read "Thunder Dog" by Michael Hingson with Suzy Flory. As the subtitle tells, it's "The True Story of a Blind Man, His Guide Dog & the Triumph of Trust at Ground Zero."Reading a story about a man who survived the September 11th terrorist attack on the World Trade Center is compelling enough. But add to the story the fact that the man, Michael Hingson, is blind, has a guide dog Roselle and has to descend 78 stories on foot to get to safety and you have a gripping survival account by an unforgettable pair. The story is well told, with a moment by moment account of Michael and Roselle's escape, along with colleague David Frank from their office located on the 78th floor in Tower I of the World Trade Center. Interspersed with the details of that fateful day are stories of Michael's life.Michael was born two months premature and was blind due to pure oxygen he received as part of the...

Guide Dog Trainer's Insights on Dogs and Training
This book is a terrific resource for anyone selecting or training any dog to work around the public, including therapy dog work, assistance (service dog is the term under the Americans with Disabilities Act) dog work, and even search and rescue. Michael Tucker trained guide dogs and conveys in this book many aspects of teaching the dog how to work reliably and with the ability to take initiative responsibly. It's a wonderful book that should be back in print! ---Kathy Diamond Davis, author, "Therapy Dogs: Training Your Dog to Reach Others," now in 2nd Edition (Paperback).

Freedom for the blind by using seeing eye dogs.
This book is an excellent chronical of The Seeing Eye, yet written in language a child can understand. The examples of exciting events punctuate and enliven the text.

Guide Eyes For The Blind

An individual can vote for one dog from each category: guide dogs, law enforcement/arson dogs, service dogs, therapy dogs, military dogs, search and rescue dogs, hearing dogs and emerging hero dogs. A New Rochelle woman really wants to win $15,000 for Yorktown Heights' Guiding Eyes for the Blind . Ann Chiappetta, who is blind, has a 5-year-old female black Labrador retriever guide dog named Verona who is a contestant in the American Humane... of Veterans Affairs in White Plains, chose Guiding Eyes for the Blind because it is the organization where Verona was bred and trained. "She's saved me from being hurt so many times, if she could be honored by people voting for her that would be a great tribute to her and the other guide dogs like her who help blind people each and every day. "The expert work Guiding Eyes does to prepare and provide superbly bred and trained dog guides costs $50,000," she said.

Sierra Fish, community resources manager for Guide Dogs for the Blind, said it was the first time the organization brought airline employees to its campus to help them understand the working relationship between owners and guide dogs. The employees were met by Paul Lopez, CEO for Guide Dogs for the Blind, who talked about the journey of a guide dog's life—from breeding to puppyhood to training and finally hitching up with the new owner. "As Alaska Airlines managers, we wanted to understand how we can make blind or visually impaired customers have the best experience with our airline as possible—for themselves and the guide dogs," said Bill Essick, Alaska Airlines' sales and... Guide Dogs for the Blind (GDB) invited about 30 Bay Area airport employees from Seattle-based Alaska Airlines and Horizon Air employees airports to its campus in San Rafael, Calif. Fish said the program supports about 800 puppies per year, and only about 40 percent pass the test to support the blind. Employees were allowed to walk with a guide dog in-training, issue commands and get a feel for how the dogs respond to certain commands.
