Starting Place For Forms
It was cheaper to buy this book from Amazon instead of the Project Management Institute--(PMI), "Even for PMI Members", after postage. Amazon also "has" customer service, so where to buy this is was a no brainer. Many of the forms in the book are just a series of empty blocks with section headers from the Project Management Book of Knowledge, PMI's (PMBOK 4th) Edition. So the offered forms are often rudimentary. So if the purchaser is savvy to PMI and PMBOK and looking for a baseline book of forms for a project management program, this is it. This is a great place to start that journey of developing forms for your Program Management Office (PMO), congratulations to Ms Stackpole and team!Lastly, The price of the book felt egregious, but of course that is a matter of perspective.

Thorough, practical and ethical guide.
The Therapist's Guide to Clinical InterventionThe 123's of Treatment Planning is a timely resource for therapists in the age of managed care. This is a pragmatic and helpful reference for conceptualizing and writing treatment plans that should meet insurance, managed care, and national quality guidelines. There are descriptions of major DSM-IV disorder groups, along with general treatment goals and accompanying objectives for consideration. These plans are from a cognitive behavioral viewpoint. For graduate students, this first section will provide guidelines for treatment planning. For experienced professionals, it will provide reminders, help fill in some blanks, and encourage the use of some new techniques. The second section is on the clinical assessment of special circumstances. The red flag issues of suicide, homicide and grave disability assessments are covered in a succinct and straight forward manner. This is an excellent review for post doctorates...

An excellent tool for the new therapist.
Sharon Johnson provides a valuable service to graduate students in counseling or clinical psychology with publication of the Therapist's Guide to Clinical Intervention: The 1-2-3's of Treatment Planning. I recommend this volume to my graduate students in psychology who are preparing for a professional milestone such as a comprehensive exam or licensing interview. Several year's worth of detailed knowledge is presented clearly and succinctly in this compact, practical overview of "everything you thought you knew about psychotherapy but can't call to mind just now". We recently added the Therapist's Guide to Clinical Intervention as a required text for our graduate course in Advanced Individual Psychotherapy, and the students are grateful to learn of such a direct, practical guide to standard practices, diagnostic criteria, and documentation. Because it is designed as a handy reference, the Therapist's Guide to Clinical Intervention does not cover every style of...

Every paragraph contained a fresh valuable tip/consideration
The first 30 pages alone would have been enough to rank 10 stars! Just by reading this book I became optimistic about my practice and it began to fill. Each chapter gave me ideas I never thought of before. It helped me work smarter - with less effort, much more pleasure. By the time I finished this book I was trying to decide whether to raise my rates or start a waiting list, and I was seeing IDEAL clients, taking no HMO's, charging more than other psychiatrists in my area, and looking forward to going to work each day. This book blends business with integrity and taught me to value myself, my practice and my clients. I recommend it to ANYONE in the health care field. It made it so easy, and helped me to confront business aspects I hadn't been paying attention to. And she gives so may real life examples, it feels do-able. This book is worth a years' worth of high quality business consulting. I recommend it to any of my clients who have private practices from yoga...

Finally, solid, straightforward help for therapists
I am a clinical social worker, in private practice for quite a while. Last year without knowing why, my client count began to drop off. I got worried. A colleague in my peer supervision group swore by this book. (Her practice stays full all the time.) I think it is the most helpful book on practice-building and marketing for therapists I have ever read. The information in the book is really useful and solid. But more than that, the tone of the book is so calming and inspiring. The author clearly knows her topic, and she finds ways to explain exactly what steps you need to take to become more profitable and grow your practice. Unlike other non-therapist marketers, she understands the mind of a healing professional and the mental shifts in thinking that introverts like me need to go through in order to follow through on networking or getting more boundaries in place for my billing policy. On the back of the book, one reviewer (who was a social worker of the year!) said the book should...

A necessity for every person thinking about private practice
This book gave me the vision to open my own private practice. It provided me with the necessary information to make me feel confident when I finally made the decision to begin building my own practice. It not only explained the business aspects but also described how to make me personally satisfied with what I was doing. I call this book my "Private Practice Bible" and I am sure you will too once you read it for yourself. Good luck with your dreams. This book helped me make mine come true.

90 pages of pure fun
There are two things you need to know about The Vampire Relationship Guide Vol 1. First, it is a novella, so it is the perfect afternoon read. Second, The snarky wit and humor Evelyn Lafont uses will leave you gasping for more. I didn't know what to expect when I started this book, but I can assure you it is 90 pages of pure fun!Josie is a girl desperate to date a vampire. She knows very little about them except that they are red hot sexy. This can lead to unexpected consequences, since we all know that vampires and sexy men are usually not all that they seem. She is a balls-to-the-walls, foul-mouthed, fly-by-the-seat-of-her-pants kind of gal. This took me by surprise, but I found it incredibly refreshing. In a fictional world of trembling maidens, unsure female leads, and heroines that need to be guided, Josie is like cotton candy for the mind. You might not want it for every meal, but it sure hits the spot.Small spoiler: I don't completely understand the...

EXCERPT

By the time we got to Rocket Burger, I felt like I'd been ridden hard and put away wet. And if I'd just been having sex that would have been great, but considering that I felt this way after a ten minute drive with Walker, it didn't bode well for the rest of the evening.

Walker, as a vampire, generally didn't get hot. So when the air conditioning went out in his truck he saw no need to fix it. In order to keep me from suffocating or sweating literally to death on the ride to Rocket Burger, we had to drive with the windows rolled down. Naturally this didn't really cool me off so much as whip my hair into a crazy frenzy, get sand and road dust stuck to my face, and evenly spread my sweat all over my body. In short, I was disgusting.

We got out of the car and Walker asked me something but I couldn't hear him over the roar of hundreds of motorcycles all revving their engines for bike night. Since I also can't read lips I simply looked at Walker stupidly, unsure how to even react to the sounds he was obviously trying to make.

"You have a hair," he shouted, "going up your nose!"

Of course I did. I ran my fingers through my hair and tried to make it look sexily tousled but I'm sure I didn't achieve the look. "Can we get a table?" I shouted back to him.

He smiled and grabbed my hand and then pulled me toward the building. Rocket Burger is made up of two different sections--the original restaurant which is closed-in and air-conditioned and the ramshackle shack portion of the restaurant which has a lovely and quaint dirt floor, picnic tables, and random two-by-fours with plywood crookedly affixed to them as "walls." How it has survived hurricane season in Florida for over fifty years is anybody's guess.

Walker led me to the unair-conditioned ramshackle portion of the restaurant and we sat down at an empty picnic table. Since my white shorts were already looking less than clean, I didn't bother to wipe off the seat. To hell with it, I thought. It's not like we're ever going on another date.

The waitress came to our table and asked what we wanted to drink. We both ordered beer and I went ahead and put in my hamburger order too. Walker, apparently, wasn't hungry because he didn't ask for anything in the way of food. Maybe I wasn't the only one that wanted to get this over with quickly.

I was surprised when Walker's hand reached across the table and rested on top of mine. One of my eyebrows went up and I looked at him. "Really? Is that how you feel this date is going? It's going well enough to touch each other?"

He laughed. "I'm a man, Josie. We could be swinging bats at each other's heads and I'd still want to touch you. Top to learn more

Vampire Romance Send-Up
I'm going to break this down into The Good and the Not-So-Good to try and keep my thoughts a bit more on track than the first draft of this review turned out.The Good: This may be one of the funniest genre pastiches I've ever read. Vampire (and other supernatural creature) Romance is a huge market right now, and in 90 pages Evelyn Lafont manages to crack wise about almost every trope of the genre. I haven't even read that much supernatural romance (urban fantasy of the detective/crime realm is more my cup of tea) and I found myself smiling or laughing or nodding knowingly throughout the book. The main reason I enjoyed the book is that it does not take itself too seriously. The book is a fast easy read with lots of funny dialogue and wink-wink-nudge-nudge humor regarding the current obsession with sexy vampires. The author also does a nice job of taking all the standards of vampire lore and giving them the tweaks necessary to make them work in her world without straying...

Bad Boy dressed in black - - - LOVE HIM!
This was a fast, fun read. The characters are great! Josie is spunky and funny, Gregory is smooth and mysterious, and Walker....what can a girl say about Walker! He is rough and crass, but you can see the soft and suave under the surface (it just doesn't like show!). I was IN from the first page. Couldn't wait to see what would happen next and fell in love with Josie's personality! Gregory seems "off" from the start. Of course that could be the relationship cynic in me. If it seems too good to be true - it is. I enjoyed the interactions of Josie and Walker, I love the attraction that they each try to ignore. The story moves quickly and doesn't leave you hanging. I would have loved to see this story fleshed out more and moved from a novella to a full length story. I feel that the characters and the storyline could have sustained a longer book. If I had to say there was one thing that disappointed me - it would be that the story was over too fast. I can't wait for Volume...

Product Description

This book covers the following three topics in a manner accessible to graduate students who have an understanding of algebraic number theory and scheme theoretic algebraic geometry:

1. An elementary construction of Shimura varieties as moduli of abelian schemes

2. p-adic deformation theory of automorphic forms on Shimura varieties

3. A simple proof of irreducibility of the generalized Igusa tower over the Shimura variety

The book starts with a detailed study of elliptic and Hilbert modular forms and reaches to the forefront of research of Shimura varieties associated with general classical groups. The method of constructing p-adic analytic families and the proof of irreducibility was recently discovered by the author. The area covered in this book is now a focal point of research worldwide with many far-reaching applications that have led to solutions of longstanding problems and conjectures. Specifically, the use of p-adic elliptic and Hilbert modular forms have proven essential in recent breakthroughs in number theory (for example, the proof of Fermat's Last Theorem and the Shimura-Taniyama conjecture by A. Wiles and others).

Haruzo Hida is Professor of Mathematics at University of California, Los Angeles. His previous books include Modular Forms and Galois Cohomology (Cambridge University Press 2000) and Geometric Modular Forms and Elliptic Curves (World Scientific Publishing Company 2000). Top to learn more

Making a Living as an Artist- The Real Deal
My copy of "The Fine Artist's Guide to Marketing and Self-Promotion" by Julius Vitali could not have arrived at a better time. I needed to approach numerous manufacturers to evaluate state-of-the-art video equipment for my own book project. The chapter on corporate support for the arts provided the right combination of factual information and inspiration that let me know I could anticipate a 75% favorable response to a request for product support. This book prepares beginners for a life of living off one's own wits as an artist. It contains reasonably priced, low and high tech ways to promote your art on your own. It's required reading for anyone seriously planning on making a career in the arts. Art professors would do their students a big favor by making this book a required text.Julius Vitali encourages artists to think of themselves as small business entrepreneurs, like painters of the Renaissance who ran their studios as businesses.
