A great fence...
We got this fence, along with one extra panel, to keep our baby daughter away from our wood stove. It also ended up being very useful at Christmas time for closing off the end of the room where the tree and presents were. The hinged sections, along with the fence's rigidity, make it very versatile in closing off larger areas. It is also the only fence we found that seemed attractive enough to leave up in our living room for a few years. The fence also comes with hardware to attach one or both ends to a wall, making it more secure.

This product worked very well
We've had this gate around our fireplace for 3 years. We have a large hearth and a wood stove insert, so a secure gate was a must. It is quite heavy, and has been very sturdy. The opening works well, and provides sufficient access to the fire. We cut it very close on the dimensions, so the gate was a little hard to install. All and all, this was a great purchase and well worth the money.

Attractive and sturdy
It's a sturdy barrier that's easy to attach to the wall. It's dark color helps it look right at home surrounding our fireplace.The price is a little higher than some other barriers that are bigger and sturdier. Check out the North States 3-in-1 barrier; it's a bit sturdier and costs about 40-50 dollars less.

Works great
Works great! Definitely pricey, but was the only gate that fit around our wood burning stove and fireplace. Looks much better than the plastic gates and works well. Easy to install. Definitely worth the money.

Excellent fence for us

Great customer service, wish we didn't need it
We are very happy with the purchase of the orignal hearth gate which we have on our main floor. It's sturdy, tall, looks nice and was easy to install (5 stars). We opted for this newer model in our basement because it has a much wider door; making loading wood easier. This is just as sturdy, tall, good looking and easy to install. The only reason I took off a star is that the product arrived damaged due to poor support inside the box...twice.That said, both the vendor and Kidco really kept my business by providing such good customer service when things were wrong. First, Little Folks made the first exchange painless. When the second gate came damaged I contacted Kidco directly. While their product packaging department may have some work to do, their customer service is first rate: friendly and responsive. I simply emailed pictures of the damge directly to the rep on my case and he sent out replacements that day. He also gave me his full name and direct line to deal...

works well, but tought to open
Its a nice height so if an adult needs to step over it, it works, but the magnet is so strong it is very hard to open (the only reason for 3 stars) I like the auto close feature. It also worked nicely over a large opening to prevent my cats/dogs from getting into a guest area in our basement.

Details about the ends of the extension
When my husband and I were looking at getting extension pieces for our gate we were worried that the extension pieces wouldn't fit where we wanted them. We didn't know if the top of the piece would have two cone hinges, two non-cone hinge ends (for lack of a better name), or one of each. Without seeing a good photo of it on this or other sites, we just decided to order it anyway and hope for the best.The section has one end that has a cone hinge and one end that has a non-cone hinge end, so it can be inserted between any of the other pieces in the original 5-piece HearthGate. We haven't received the 24" extension yet, but according to the user guide that came with this extension, the 24" long extension is constructed the same way.Hopefully this review will help others that are in our situation, not knowing how the extension is constructed.

I really like using this hearth gate. There are extensions that you can buy so that it can wrap around any design. The gate door cant be opened by my young child. Not only is it functional but it also looks classy. I think it's great and would definitely recommend it to parents with young children.
