Wonderful Well Designed Cooker!
This is the fourth rice cooker I have owned and it is by far and away the best. The rice cooks right every time. The manual does give a guide of how much water to add for different types of rice but I have found that even when I screw up and do not use the right amount of water the rice has turned out pretty good.I enjoy the fact that the device has a sealed top which really seems to help the rice be more consistent and also makes me feel better having this unit used with three small children in the house running around. The rice receptacle inside is a delightful non-stick surface that is more then easy to clean. The steam feature for other items works wonderful as well. I have left rice in the device for over two hours after cooking and it is still moist, tasty and not burnt. This review has been updated over time. The original portion follows:August 2007:I'm amazed at just how well this basic rice cooker does its job! It's easy to clean, can keep cooked rice hot for hours and is extremely easy to use. I shopped around and considered the higher priced models but decided to start with something inexpensive to see if a rice cooker was really an appliance I needed in my kitchen. This one does a great job for a very reasonable price and I'm so glad I didn't pay more. We're using it to cook Basmati rice (bought in bulk) and with this cooker it turns out perfect every time. Perfect Rice!
It cooks my rice perfect every time. It's important to always use there measurment guides. There cup size measures differently from traditional measures. (measuring cup is included). For those who complain about the rice sticking to the bottom of pan (reviews from Target website), the directions do state to add an extra cup of water - depending on the type of rice being cooked. Also, little things like if you rinse your rice also make a big difference, because it reduces starches and nutrients. Not to mention that if you are cooking your typical white rice (long-grain) always get rice that has been imported from Thialand, never rinse it. The rice is of better quality, cooks better and tastes great. You can buy Jasmine brand at Walmart $4 for a 5 lb bag, or find a specialty store. Works well so far
I've cooked 1 brown and 2 white rice batches and all have come out very good. I've been following the rice package instructions for the amount of water instead of using the lines inside the cooker which are a bit hard to read without very good light. I even tried cooking only 1 scoop of rice, even thought they claim a minimum of 2, and it came out perfect. As with most rice cookers their measuring "cup" or scoop is actually 3/4 of a standard measuring cup.

Great Gadget
Just received this rice cooker. Did alot of research and settled on this one. I cooked 1 cup of brown rice in it, and it came out perfect. It does take a while for the rice to cook (about 1 hour for brown rice, white rice around 30-35 min.) but I was more looking for perfect rice and not speedy rice. Made oatmeal in it this morning (took 30 min.) and it was perfect.It is large for one person, but you are able to make large amounts of rice and meals when you need it. I dont think it is much bigger than the 6 cup or 8 cup models. It seems to handle small amounts of rice (1 cup) very well. Plus I have the comfort knowing I can make more than enough rice to feed a army! The steaming basket, large enough for Veggies and Meats is also a plus because you can steam them while you cook your rice. Perfect for making Yoshinoya style chicken bowls (Smile).No complaints so far. Sure beats the hassle of making rice on the stovetop along with the cleanup. This...

Love it for brown rice.
I usually eat brown rice which takes long time to cook and needs supervision. I bought Aroma to save time and to have a perfect rice. The rice cooker works awesome, although I figured out that more water is needed for brown rice (I add 25% more water than is recommended). For rice medley which has some hard pieces I use this proportion: 2 cups of rice I fill with the water up to line 3; this is the cup that comes with the cooker, and the lines are inside the cooker to indicate how much water is needed). Rice comes delicious, not mushy.I wish the rice cooker could be smaller, but it looks good and instructions are clear.

Great Rice Cooker! (Soak brown rice first!)
We bought this rice cooker from a store whose name rhymes with "Halmart". Thinking that we knew how to cook rice, we loaded it up and fired away, only to get a tremendous mess of starchy goop that flooded the top of the unit and flowed down the side, collecting underneath. (It stinks and the stink gets worse if you forget that it's there...)After reading reviews for other Aroma rice cookers here on Amazon, I discovered that soaking the rice fixes everything. And very fortunately, this unit comes with a delay timer. Just load the cooker with rice and water (measured, of course), press "Delay Timer" for the number of hours you'd like to delay (the number is the number hours when the rice will be finished), and choose "white rice" or "brown rice" (brown rice was giving us the most mess). I've set the timer as little as 2 hours, and the mess is eliminated even then. I believe that more delay is better. I've set it as long as 12 hours. I don't know the maximum number of...

Aroma fan but . . .
This cooker was to replace my old Aroma rice cooker which I have loved for years. I have used it 2-3 times and so far, during each cooking, the water from the unit escapes from the top not only as steam, but as a goopy mess that leaks onto the counter if you aren't there to sop it up during the cooking process. Today I used the cooker again and to my surprise, there was none of the goopy mess. It worked perfectly and made perfect rice. I rinsed the rice (no soaking) before the cooking and put a little butter in the cooker and mixed with rice to coat. I also added about 1/2 cup extra water. I did open the cooker before it alerted me it was done and I fluffed the rice. It was perfect so I pulled the plug (another quirk they changed - my old one had a retractable cord which was fabulous) and let it sit for a few minutes before I was ready to serve. Love it!
We bought this to replace an older rice cooker. I love the features - brown rice and delay timer. We used to jump hoops to cook brown rice well. Still came short. However, with this rice cooker its easy and the rice comes out with just the right amount of consistency. The delay timer is another feature I really like it. Just put the rice and water and set the timer. It will automatically start, cook and come to warm. Really convenient. Overall I like it and would recommend to others.

Great rice cooker
This thing works great, and it steams veggies at the same time!!!! Just read the instructions thoroughly. If you are cooking brown or wild rice the water measurements are different. Rice comes out fluffy and moist every time. And, it stays moist on the warm setting too. I had it in there staying warm for over an hour and you wouldn't have known it, seriously. Buy this!

Great buy -- doubly so, for the price!
Wanted to make some great sushi -- and this pot turned out fabulous rice, couldn't have been better for the task! Also, since getting this Aroma, I've done several one-dish dinners in it, steaming meat & veggies right with the rice. Its done a dynamite job -- almost like having a cook in the house, finishing off dishes for me. Easy to clean, quick to store, and absolutely as represented -- an inexpensive yet faithful piece of equipment with nice range of skills. Plus -- you can cook -- and transport -- hot food in it to a potluck dinner, easily -- and without getting burned. How's that for the price?!!!

Great for the price
This is a really cheap rice cooker, so naturally it's very simple and isn't as versatile as the more expensive models. However, if all you're interested in is the basic functionality, it does the job almost perfectly.If you've ever used a rice cooker you probably already know everything there is to know about it, they all follow the same pattern. It's got a non-stick pan, a warming function, a spoon and a cup and a steam tray. Basic stuff so i won't go into that.I'm not sure if there is any real difference in cooking times between different rice cookers (i would assume not since rice can only absorb water so quickly), but this does the job well. A cup or two of white rice takes 15 or 20 minutes to finish; if it's brown rice it'll be more like 30. It seems slightly faster than boiling, but not by much. Wow - Great steamed veggies and fish
I bought this item to cook vegetables and fish. I have not been disappointed. Works great. Great flavor, easy cleanup, start it up and walk away. The steam mode does a good job. I have cooked rice once with it. The plastic tray cleans easier than an aluminum steamer tray used on the cheaper models. I have lost 40 lbs by cooking healthy meals with this steamer. The autmomatic mode is nice because I can start it , and come back in 30 mnutes and I am ready to eat. I now have 2 steamers, one for veggies(mostly green beans/brocoli), and the other for fish (cod/flounder/salmon). The fish is moist and flakey, mostly using frozen cod fillets. This larger size is recommended for non-rice cooking, because the space is needed. I highly recommend this item for convenient - healthy - meals.

Excellent rice cooker
I bought this rice cooker for my wife, she loves rice and wanted the rice to be just like we get all the restaurants that we eat at. We live in Tokyo Japan and the rice turns out just like the industrial restaurant rice cookers we normally get when we go out. It is pretty fast and rice comes out consistent. Great product.

Very pleased - great ricer cooker for the price!
I was a die-hard Zojirushi fan (and still am, really) but when I had to buy a new rice cooker, I just couldn't stand the thought of paying all that money, especially since I wanted a model that made a bunch of rice, so I decided to give this a try. I have to say, I have been very pleasantly surprised. Everyone in my family thinks the rice is really pretty good, I LOVE that I can steam with it - does a nice job with buns and dumplings (baozi are great in this). Easy to clean and pretty quick.The saute and simmer feature is pretty neat - to make good flavored rice I actually sauteed some onions in butter right IN the rice cooker, then I put in my rice and chicken broth and spices, then set the rice cooker to "white rice" to cook.If you are looking for a very versatile rice cooker, are thinking about trying a rice cooker for the first time, or want something that steams as well, this is definitely a good purchase.

Makes outstanding rice
I purchased my Aroma rice cooker at Target as I love rice. I originally bid on a much more expensive one on ebay but was outbid even at $120. Anyhow, I was at Target, saw this one and thought...what the heck. I followed directions to make 4 cups of brown rice. I hit the brown rice button and that was it. One hour and 45 minutes later I ate what I consider to be the best brown rice I have ever had. It didn't stick together as you get at fine restaurants, and it was fluffy. I loved it! The best feature (I think) about this machine is that when your rice is cooked, it automatically switches over to keep warm setting. Therefore, you can never overcook it. If you undercook it it's only because you didn't allow it to cook for the time the instructions tell you to. I am now so glad that I purchased this one. I paid $35 for it versus the $120 I would have paid for the Zojirushi 3 cup rice cooker.

Terrific Long Grain Brown Rice maker
I wanted to make long grain easily, but I also wanted very good cooked long grain. This rice steamer is the only one I've found that has abrown rice setting. It takes about 1 3/4 hours to make the brown rice, about a half hour for white. I also steam my vegetables at the same time. Easy to clean. The price is right, also.

Great Rice Cooker
My wife and I used this to make rice for sushi because we wanted something to cook the rice without having to watch it. We followed the directions in the manual and the rice came out much better than expected. It was fluffy and not watery at all like what can happen when cooked in a pot. We love this rice cooker and highly recommend it. It is extremely easy to use and we too bought it at target.
