I got rid of my gas mower and edger. I purchased this edger and a reel type push mower. I was doing my yard the hard way before. I hate to heap mockery on some of the reviewers' statements below, but I have found immediate gratification with this set of long handled shears. They, to be polite, are all fulla beans.In fact, my wife has agreed that we need a second pair, so she can use them when I'm obsessing with this pair.Down the list of criticisms that turned out to be so much hot air:LIGHT, not heavy. Very controllable, not fatiguing at all.Very sharp, right out of the box.Easy to balance with the front handle -- this is a two hand job, if you're going to be trimming more than a snip here and there -- and I didn't find any need to stoop or bend over at all. I'm only six feet, though, so perhaps some of the negative reviews were written by retired NBA folks.FAST, FAST, FAST delivery. The continuing search for grass trimmers
A while back I attended a lecture at an old house nearby. While poking around the property we spied some ingenious looking trimmers that were mounted on wheels. The perfect thing for edging lawns! When I saw these long handled shears in This Old House magazine they looked to be the closest thing (albeit without wheels). They are light and well balanced. The blades seem to cut nicely and I like the fact that the blade lock is easily located on the top. The blades are rather short, so you have to make lots and lots of cuts to edge a bed. Naturally, this leads to a very tired hand. The shears are easy to use in either hand, although I am pretty ambidextrous so it may just be me. I have found that something of a scythe movement enables me to cut through grass somewhat easier and quicker. I have an aversion to gas powered weed wackers as they are noisy and smelly. Such a good idea is just not solid enough
I like the idea behind the tool. It's light enough to work for an hour or better without too much strain. The adjustable angle works well and has enough settings to be practical for a number of uses. However, I found that the metal on the blades is too soft and nicks too easily, which, due to the cutting angle, causes the shears to hang up and fail to cut. Top to learn more

Over the years I've used many Black & Decker products. Everything from power tools to lawn care equipment, most are as advertised and effectively do the job just as good as the higher priced competition. I haven't used a gas powered tool in over 12 years now. I've also gone the electric route as well. My eleven year old 18 volt B&D trimmer has more then proved itself and finally was put out to pasture. I'm still surprised that I got that much running time from the two 18 volt batteries that came with the unit. For quick and easy trimming, its been a capable tool. That said, I picked up the Black & Decker LST220 Grasshog Trimmer at my local hardware store last weekend.After a quick inventory, I scanned over the brief instructions. Its pretty much cut and dry as to what's in the box. There's the trimmer, instructions, two batteries, cord, and a charger. The company also tags on a two year limited warranty. Good for trimming, okay for edging, short battery life
This is my first cordless electric trimmer. Despite of mediocre reviews at consumer reports I decided to try this one, after yet another half hour on my knees in the garage trying to start my diva-esque 3-year-old 2-cycle gas engine trimmer..Shipping was slow, packing the worst I've ever seen from Amazon! But it worked, and it was fairly easy to put the parts together. I used it twice now, so here is my impression:Sleek looks, length is adjustable (but barely enough for me, and I am only 6ft tall), charging really takes 8 hours for each battery (!), and the trimmer runs between 10 and 12 minutes with a fully charged battery - less if you are edging stubborn St Augustine grass.It is louder than I expected, but still much better than a gas engine trimmer.Trimming:The line is a little thinner (.65) compared to my Ryobi gas trimmer (.80), the diameter of the cutting area is a lot smaller and it uses only one line instead of two, so it takes a little longer to... LIGHTWEIGHT BUT SHORT RUN TIME
I bought this product from my local "bigbox" store a month ago so thought I would drop a review here anyway. The LST220 came with two 20volt lithium ion batteries, a charger, and a leaf blower. I am not the least big mechanically inclined, but I put this wonder together in a few minutes. Batteries each take a full 8 hours to charge, which is a drawback for me, since they only gave me 20 minutes of weeding on each battery, and take 8 hours to charge each one. This unit's height can be adjusted with the quick easy turn of a collar, and the (.065) line is automatic--so no more bump & feed! It is so lightweight and easy to use, and I really do love the fact that I don't have to mess with pulling that nasty string a dozen times on a smelly gas-powered trimmer any more. With this model, all you do is push a button! The only cons would be that the battery lasts me 20 minutes of run time, so I get to do about 35-40 minutes total weed whacking using two batteries. With a $25 gift certificate I got this for less than $10. It was well worth it. I am trying my best to get rid of needless gas motors because two ATVs, a lawn tractor and a mower is more than enough to maintain. I also wanted something that was very light so my wife could use it.I have 3/4 of an acre of lawn and don't mind using cords to get where I need to. This little trimmer does everything it should. I easily trim around my raised garden beds and this unit is very good for precise trimming around flower beds, etc. The line feed is very easy to use.I had no issues with shipping, the unit worked and still does. OK for small jobs, but messy
This trimmer is a step down from the last electric weed whacker I used. It can get the job done, but it doesn't do it as quickly - I find that I have to be much more careful in my technique, or the string will simply brush over grass blades and weeds without cutting them. My other beef is that there isn't a sufficient guard on the back side to keep my feet and legs from getting sprayed with clippings. I have to remember to change into old clothes before using this.That said, when I bought this, I figured that for the price it didn't have to be that good to be worth it, and from that standpoint, I'd say it met expectations. If you need to do a lot of trimming, go for something better. But if you just need a trimmer occasionally, this should do the job just fine. Top to learn more

A must have for anyone that doesn't carry a cord
I purchased my Worx over three years ago. WG150.1. With unlimited string and two year warrenty. I did have them send me a six pact of string about a year ago, free, no problem. Yes, after time the battery will not keep a charge as it did when it was new, no rechargable battery ever will. I say again, no rechargable battery will ever preform as it did as it was new. The Worx has been the most handy tool in my landscaping. It's light and easy to handle, stores away in it's own carrier, and the customer support has been 5 star. On a lighter note, one review stated, "The battery only lasted 45 minutes". It used to take me 45 minutes to get out the needed power cords and trim and then put everything away.
