Nothin' but Ice Cream!
Caution: Rave ReviewWhy can't I get decent chocolate chip ice cream? That's what I want to know. Chocolate chip, plain, unvarnished and perfect, is a rapidly vanishing breed in the highly segmented world of commercial premium ice cream. The Donvier lets you create the fresh flavors you want, when you want them. So, I get my chocolate chip with rich veins of beautiful Ghiradelli's milk chocolate chips and just a few semi-sweet for the heck of it. My wife's favorite is fresh peach and that's what she gets. You know what - in season, it tastes very much like a beautifully ripe peach! Only better.Freeze the container overnight. Dump in the ingredients. Pop the lid on. Stir. Wait a bit. Stir some more. Repeat for ... minutes or so. Yesterday, I made a quart of ice cream while I was in the midst of preparing dinner for six - it was just no problem. The ice cream got such rave reviews from our guests that I was troubled at how easy it was to make. Chocolate chip TIP: Wait...

I LOVE IT!!!
I have had this machine for a few years but just got into REALLY making wonderful icecream with it. My kids, husband and I love the ice cream we make with this machine. My husband asked me (after tasting his favorite flavor), "You made this icecream, NO, really, is it really homemade?" We have had friends over for dinner and I made some homemade ice cream. They just raved about it....they all want a Donvier too. I purchased this one because it is easy to use and produces FANTASTIC results. My kids love to be able to be part of the process so they, too, can say they can make delicious ice cream. (I think part of what MAKES the machine is a REALLY good recipe). You can buy several different ice cream books but my favorite recipes is from Ben & Jerry's. 2 eggs, 3/4 cup sugar, 1 c milk (I use Half & Half), 2 cups heavy cream. (this is just the base for many different flavors you can make). Beat the eggs for 2 mins, until light and fluffy, add sugar a little at a time, beat...

No salt or ice are needed to create 1 quart of ice cream, frozen yogurt, sorbet, or frozen drinks at home with this ice-cream maker. Just turning the crank occasionally for 15 or 20 minutes is all it takes. The unit's freezer bowl goes into a refrigerator's freezer for about 7 hours to freeze the liquid between its walls. The bowl then goes into the outer case, the paddle goes into the bowl, ingredients go into the bowl, the transparent top is locked in place, and the crank is turned. The aluminum bowl cleans easily, the outer case and top are plastic so they wipe clean. The unit measures 9-1/2 inches high and 8 inches in diameter (not including handle). It carries a 10-year warranty against defects. An instruction booklet containing many recipes is included. --Fred Brack Top to learn more

Attention Unhappy Customers!
I ordered my Donvier a couple of weeks ago, in spite of some negative reviews, because I've used this type of ice cream maker before and I like the hand cranking, no-salt method. It's also small and easy to store. Since I received my Donvier I have experienced every problem listed by a negative reviewer for this product, and I have found the single solution to all of them. When I got the Donvier I made some ice cream right away and it came out perfect--yay! Then I thought, hmm, better with a little less sugar. So I tried it again. Disaster! The mixture got all slushy, with too-large ice crystals, and it never really froze. This sounded suspiciously like one of the negative reviews I'd read, but since the first batch was great, I tried again. WORSE! Not even any ice crystals this time. The Donvier I now possessed could not freeze an ice cube. I started thinking "defective product," and was considering sending it back. But then I remembered reading recently that...

Customer Review

In defense of cheap products!
After reading all the reviews on all the ice cream makers I found one common theme; lots of one star reviews for a "cheap" product. News flash, welcome to the world we live in. The lifestyle you get to live is because of economies of scale and mass production that we enjoy. The old days of 1923 White Mountain freezers are gone. Unless you want to spend $180-$200 on a "White Mountain" ice cream maker that is still getting bad reviews and is now owned by Rival, I would suggest just a few tweaks to make this machine great.First, my barrel had a crack in it like other people have complained about. Instead of having to deal with sending it back, I bought some wood glue for $4 at a hardware store and bought 6 hose clamps ($2 each) and connected two of them to make them fit around the barrel for each of the 3 wire rings. I pulled off the 3 cheap wires (that are only for show) and put some glue in the crack and tightened the hose clamps then left them on to keep it tight.Is...

Makes great ice cream!
We read the reviews for this one and several others before deciding to go with this model. It arrived in perfect condition, no cracks in the barrel. We followed another gentleman's directions: When the machine shuts itself off, leave it off, put on the hand crank and crank it a couple more minutes until it won't turn. We've made two batches so far and neither one lasted long. We usually just make a 2 quart recipe and the ice cream is a bit firmer than soft serve. It's good this way and just as good after setting up.

Ice cream bucket
Both my husband and I have childhood memories of cranking the ice cream bucket as part of any family or church gathering. What ever happened to that, I don't know. When his birthday rolled around, I was at a loss to come up with the perfect gift. We had looked at electric ice cream freezers and were unimpressed with the too small plastic bucket of the cheap models we saw. Finally we gave up on ever finding a real, hand crank icecream maker. Then I found this one and was frankly disappointed that I had to "settle" for the electric option, but bought it because the birthdate was upon me it had the hand crank option as well. I figured we would never use the electric option because cranking it by hand was part of the nostalgia. Couldn't have been more wrong! First night, I set up a batch in the kitchen sink, plugged it in and turned it on. It works so perfectly well that we may never be able to persuede any of the adult kids to crank it again! We love this machine. The bucket...

Awesome Ice Cream Maker, Fantastic Value
1st, a great value. If you get cream at a bulk store, 6 bucks for a 50 pound sack of rock salt, ice from your freezer, and a few pennies for the other ingredients (sugar and vanilla), you're looking at a gallon of high quality ice cream for 5 bucks or less. Figure you're saving 5-7 bucks a use. That means this unit pays for itself if you use if 6 times, maybe 10-20 times if you're spending a lot on added ingredients.2nd. Simple to use. Really well designed. Can't for the life of me understand people sticking plastic orange juice container parts to "fix" it. If it doesn't work, bring it back! Otherwise, top only goes on one way, and there's a locking feature that means that the unit must be properly assembled to fit correctly.3rd. For people saying "it uses a lot of ice, and I had to run to the store . . . " my lord people, are we that helpless? You own a freezer, right? Make your own ice. All it takes is just a bit of planning. Just a bit people,...

Hamilton Beach 68330R
I always read customer reviews here on Amazon before purchasing a product. The reviews posted for the Hamilton Beach 68330R 4-Quart Ice Cream Maker were somewhat puzzling. Some feedback was a concern and some raved about the product. I decided to buy the product and am very glad that I did. This machine is not as noisy as some have claimed and the quality of construction is pretty good. The ice cream produced by this machine is fabulous! Yes, it comes out like soft-serve but hardens perfectly when placed in the freezer for half a day. I prefer soft-serve anyway and tend to eat more than my share before it goes into the freezer. Clean-up is a snap with this thing. I really don't see any down-side for this product at this price.

Love it! Just got it today & already have a gallon of ice cream
Just received this afternoon. Ran down to the store, bought all the ingredients, and just threw our first gallon of ice cream in the freezer. It's so cool ... and FUN! We did the quick and easy vanilla recipe that came with the recipe book, chopped up some brownies and reeses PB cups, and the motor stopped like it's supposed to in just 30 minutes. Soft serve ice cream as good as anything from the store ... and better for us. The directions are VERY simple to follow. We've never made ice cream before and didn't know squat about how to do it. Including time spent going to the store, we had our first batch within two hours after FEDEX delivered the package. We were skeptical about the loudness of the motor based on a prior review we read; the motor is really not that loud, but the sound it makes is rather obnoxious after about 10 to 15 minutes. However, it sounds just like I thought an electric ice cream maker would sound like. So, no surprises and SOOOO worth it! The price was...

Works GREAT!!!
I picked this unit up for under $30.00 at Penney's last year, after our old wooden bucket unit gave up the ghost. We'd had that one for about 15 yrs. The problem with the wooden buckets, was that the brass bands holding it together, always rusted from the corrosion of salt water that came into contact with it. The plastic bucket on this unit eliminates the rust issue. It has a large capacity; about 5 or 6 qts, which is good for large families or a crowd. The problem with the new units like cuisinart, is that they only hold 1 or 2 pints! Why go through that much work, for such a small amount? Plus, those only work if you think ahead to pre-freeze the interior canister for overnight. That eliminates the possibility of deciding on spur of the moment some summer day, to say "hey, let's make some ice cream! NOW!" Yeah, yeah, you have to use a cheap box of rock salt and pick up a bag of ice. Using ice and salt, really aren't a big deal though. After making your custard or ice cream...

Greatest Chrismas gift ever.
I got this as a Christmas gift from my mom. It's simply the best present ever. It's so easy to set up, so easy to clean and so easy to make ice cream...put all the ingredients in, let it churn for about 30 or so minutes, and it's done. I like to put it in the freezer for an extra 2 hours, then put it in the microwave for about 20 seconds, and to me, it tastes way better than anything at a store. I've made all kinds of awesome flavors just using the "easy ice cream". Mint chocolate chip, peanut butter swirl vanilla, plain vanilla, egg nog ice cream. I love my ice cream to death and this thing lets me experiment in ways I never could have imagined...awesome...simply awesome. It makes a lot too, which was great compared to some of the others that looked to produce about 1/4 as much as this one does.5 Stars all the way...HIGHLY recommended.

Yummy
We have committed ourselves to make ice cream for a fund raiser. Now we've been making ice cream for a long time with our small old one. Knew that wouldn't even begin to keep up with hundreds of ice cream lovers. Both my husband and I searched the reviews and made our purchases he got Nostalgia Electrics ICMP-400BLUE 4-Quart Plastic Bucket, and I got Hamilton Beach 68330R 4-Quart Automatic. We tested both out and in compared them. They both produced excellent ice cream! The Nostalgia motor slowed then stopped when the ice cream began to thicken, the Hamilton Beach kept going but you could smell the motor heating up as it worked harder, we had to turn it off ourselves, so keep a close eye on the Hamilton as not to burn up the very strong motor that won't give up so it doesn't burn up.What we loved about our choices is that they were very fast, took about 30 minutes to produce excellent homemade ice cream. Oh do make sure to go that extra mile and get only REAL 100% vanilla...
