All that from something invented over 4000 years ago?
I had a section of lawn that was put in before I moved in. The section is like clay and must be tough for the grass to get water... It runs off into other parts of the lawn... Area was always dry and barely any grass. Used this to make plug holes in the area and like magic... It looks like the rest of the lawn now. No extra watering, no fertilizers... Just a couple of holes in the ground and a world of difference.So I used it on the rest of my lawn. Now the whole thing looks like I fertilized it but I didn't. My neighbors are hammering me for what fertilizer I used.

Serves its purpose, but cheaper elsewhere
This aerator works as it's intended, and wetting the lawn half a day before coring does make it much easier. We have clay underneath the lawn, so the part that was dry was quite hard to core through. It's been a week and a half, and we can see some green grass coming out of the brown patches now. And in response to the person that mentioned it's hard to empty out the holes, you don't need to empty it, just keep pushing it into the ground. Each dig pushes out the dirt from the prior dig. After you're done, just stand up a stick on the ground and push through it to empty the hole, simple as that.Having said all that, I did see a very similar corer/aerator at home depot for $20. Wish I had bought that one.Also, a word of advice - stay away from the 4-prong aerator. It's hard enough to push through the 2-prong, I can't imagine the 4-prong working too well.

Good item and good service
I agree with BL's review of June 26, 2008. The Yard Butler Spike Aerator #M-7C is solidly made. It came quickly from the BIC Superstore via Amazon and was packed carefully. It is useful for spot aeration. We also have just a few crabgrass plants each year, and we use the product to loosen the soil and then pull out the plant by hand.

Well built and works well too
This spike aerator is great for a small lawn. I would not recommend this if you have like an acre of land, but for a townhouse it's just the right size. I found that it works easily with even slightly dry soil, and in addition to working as aerator, it can also help break large clumps of soil, or remove weed by twisting the tool on the surface of the soil.

Good tool for borders and corners
I bought the solid spike aerator as a tools to punch wholes in critical places of my yard, the borders and corners where you can't go with a power aerator. This tool is build in high quality and can help but it is going to be an extreme workout to aerate a whole yard of e.g. 2000 sft. In order to cover more space it supposed to have 6 spikes and a 2nd row with 5 spikes in alternating position.This is a lawn workout tool for those who are riding a selfpropelled lawn mower all the time! You are going to loose weight and gain a good aeration of grass roots.

Fabulous product
I tried the Yard Butler core aerator and it was terrible - repeatedly clogged. I tried to contact the company about it but neither a phone call or email illicited any response. I gave up and returned it to Amamzon. Then I found a website for the Step N'Tilt and before ordering it send a question about clogging to their contact email. I received a response almost immediately. I ordered the product directly through the company and it was very easy to put together and worked great initially. One side repeatedly clogged again. I went into the house and emailed the company about this and within an hour I had a response from them that they were sending me another part for it free of charge. I received that in a few days and switched the previous core/tine part with the replacement and it worked great. It was very fast to do my back yard and was very pleased with the end result. Their customer service was fantastic. For what you get the price is very reasonable. Very sturdy product.

Step N Tilt Lawn Core Aerator w/o Container
I purchased this item last Friday (9/23/11) and it arrived on Monday (9/26/11). I used it the next day. It arrived in a much smaller box than I expected and it was heavy but manageable. The Aerator was very easy to assemble. It came with assembly and use instructions and it even had hand written tool sizes needed. No tools are included but if you have metric or adjustable wrenches, it's a breeze. I used 2 adjustable wrenches and had it together in 10 minutes. I made sure I watered the grass early in the morning and waited about 3 hours before I used it. This thing was awesome! I was a little intimidates since I have about 1/2 acre of yard, but once I got going it was a breeze. It was fun, especially when I used it to the beat of the music on my IPOD. It took about 3 hours to do my whole yard and I kept going back over areas thinking I may not have had enough holes. This thing never clogged one time. I have heavy clay soil that clogs other core aerators (it is very frustrating and time consuming to have to clear the clogs). This Step `N Tilt lawn aerator is amazing! I have used it several hundred times - it did not clog even once! The soil cores came out every single time. It is also easier to use than other aerators. I really like the tilting motion as it does not tire me like the other aerators.

Great attachment
We just received this attachment yesterday and have put it to good use already. Working on a 1 acre lot, with lots of problem areas, these attachments worked great. We only have the Mantis tiller about 6 months and love it. The attachments were easy to put on. The thatcher amazed us with how much it pulled up, without damaging the good grass. The aerator, seems more like a slit seeder, did a nice job . This is the first time we did this on our lawn, so we will see how it looks in a couple of weeks after the new grass we planted comes in. We thought it cut a little deep, so we just worked it to keep it at a depth we preferred. Since our lawn will be an ongoing project, we thought the purchase would allow us to work on our schedule without having to rent expensive equipment, then rush to return it. We ordered on a Wednesdy night and received the package on Friday. Since Mantis offered free shipping, we ordered directly from them. We received the same price that Amazon had.
