Works great, but you can't be a weenie
This sod cutter has saved me hours of slicing and dicing with a spade. Simply grab hold of the handles, push down and kick with your foot. When you're done pull it out and pick up the sod. Its a great workout. I expanded a shrub row in 1/4 the time as the original. A word of warning though. If your idea of exercise is walking outside to get the mail then you probably shouldn't buy this product. This requires manual labor and a desire to get your hands dirty.

WORKS LIKE A CHARM
I hesitated to buy this based on other review. I am so glad I took a chance!Extremely well built. Assembled in minutes. Does exactly what it says it will do. I like to create new flower beds, or pine straw islands areas under trees. For large areas like total lawn replacement rent a gas powered sod cutter. But for small areas this is perfect! Make sure lawn is moist and soil is somewhat loose.This is great for new flower beds. It clears the grass roots and all!! Then I rototille, mix in compost and have the best edge I have ever had!This is great for creating sharp edges around my pine islands. It adds that finishing touch. My yard looks so much better!I love this

American Made with Pride
I recently purchased this item directly from the manufacturer. This piece of equipment is made with care and pride, the type of craftsmanship and quality that reminds us of days gone by.I concur with other reviewers that if you have a small area from which to remove sod, this is perfect, and it leaves the dirt nice and flat without plowing a lot of weed seed back into the remaining soil. If the sod is directly under a tree or anywhere with a lot of surface root growth or rocks, using the cutter will be difficult. If your area is relatively flat and root-free, you should have success using the proper cutting technique.The first essential is that you prepare the sod properly. Make sure that the lawn has been well watered in advance so that the soil underneath is soft. Mow the grass down as far as possible so the blade of the cutter sits below the grass roots. It's helpful to have a step edger or straight-edge garden spade cut out a little section at the end...

More than just a "Sod-Cutter", it's a serious hand tool.
The price kind of scared me off until I actually held one in my hand. I thought it was probably just an over-priced garden hand trowel. It isn't. It's very well made and feels comfortable and well balanced in the hand. I use mine to fix water leaks. Once we've uncovered a leak with a backhoe and shovels, we use this tool to clean up around the broken area to make a repair. It gets right in to the tough spots and disturbs just as little ground support as possible. It's strong enough to dig in clay and rock. The first time we used it there were a few comments from the crew about the tool and what it cost. But it worked flawlessly and didn't get broken or all bent out of shape as other small hand tools do. Now it's one of those "go to" tools when preparing to make repairs. After using it on two jobs, one of the other guys decided to get one for his tool box just to make sure we always have one on the job. And it's made in the USA, if that matters.

Great for metal detecting!
This tool was recommended to me by a friend who has been using a metal detector for a few years. It's a sturdy tool, with a comfortable grip. It will cut through even the thickest sod with no problems, and it's shape gives you good leverage for prying out your plug or extra dirt. The tool also has a smooth finish to it which makes it easy to clean as the dirt tends to not stick to it. If you're looking for a digging tool, this is definitely the one to get!

Doesn't Bend
All my other trowels eventually bent under use in rocks and roots. This heavy item is great for rough work.

If you have ever tried to salvage sod for replanting using a knife or shovel this tool is remarkable. Sod lifts with ease and the peices are uniform. Great tool.Only problem.......I ordered the tool with an ash handle and it came with a fiberglass handle.

A necessary addition to metal detecting
I struggled between this pinpointer and the DetectorPro Pistol Probe Pulse Pinpointer and decided on Garretts because it is smaller, it has a scraping edge, a light and can be rinsed under water. The depth may not be as much as the Pistol Probe but if you pin point well with the metal detector you don't need the extra depth. The couple of inches I get with this pin pointer is all I need to help quickly locate my "treasure". It has saved me hours of digging time. It has been dropped from waist level and survived. The vibration may not be as strong now since it was dropped but overall I feel it has held up well. I will continue to use this detector and would recommend it to anyone.

A must have tool!
I'm new to Metal Detecting, and am I glad that I bought this pinpointed right away! I would probably gave up if I didn't have it with me. I'm using it with Fisher F2, which is good MD but still takes some extra effort to pinpoint the find. Having Garret Pro in my other hand speeds things up considerably. It has good sensitivity and range, seems to be very durable, light and easy to carry. There's one minor annoyance however. You can't turn off the sound, and it's pretty loud. So I had to tape over the speaker opening :)

Very high quality
I love this metal detector. The first thing I noticed when I opened the box was the high quality sheath. It is made out of a tough material, and the entire snap on belt strap has hook and loop, so it stays tight no matter how slim your belt is. The detector itself performs extremely well. The chirps increase as you get closer to the target. Makes finding those elusive dimes very easy. I not only use it metal detecting, but I also use it to find conduit inside the walls of my house. The entire detector can be rinsed off under the faucet if you get it all dirty. The speaker has sort of a water repellent film. Garrett out did himself when he constructed this instrument. This is a not a toy. Mine came with a battery tester as well.
