Great Receiver--Best Sound Quality
I received a Marantz 6005 a few days ago and have been auditioning it since then. I've also auditioned, over the last four weeks, the Yamaha RX-V667, Marantz SR5005, Denon 3310, Pioneer 1120, and Onkyo 808. So how does the 6005 compare to the others? Here are my thoughts:Sound Quality: No surprises here. Having loved the sound quality of the 5005, the 6005 performed equally as well. As noted in a prior post, I had never listened to anything powered by a Marantz prior to auditioning the 5005, having previously used either Denon or Yamaha receivers. There's just something special about the Marantz sound that sets it apart from the others. It has a full-bodied, life-like sound that gives it a pleasing depth and range. Perhaps this is what others refer to as "warm." Whatever it is, it's absolutely wonderful. I'd rank (subjectively) the Onkyo and Yamaha second and third, respectively, in the sound quality department, with Denon and Pioneer bringing up the rear.Video...

Great but not greatest
Im gonna keep it short.Sound - Awesome as always from Marantz.Video - Okay but didnt test up-rez on DVDs and such, just blurays and its as fine as id expect it to be.Inputs - It shines here because its got USB for the iAnything to play directly or other such devices (but not all USB devices are compatible). Its also got the ability for bluetooth(separate adaptor) which would be nice to stream music off your laptop/ipad while going around the house or using said device for other stuff without cables grounding you to 1 spot.Outputs - Everything your heart desires (zone 2 and preamp as examples)Where it falls short:- Not enough manual control in sound settings controlling the EQ based on specifics you want- It CAN display song info from your ipod and allows use of remote to control it BUT does not display album art- does NOT read FLAC files from USB device (sr 7005 can read flac)- UI is okay but...

Wonderful receiver
I was a big fan of Denon audio equipment for a long time. I used Denon home theater receivers for last 10 years. Nothing extreme, just mid-range equipment. This time I decided to give Marantz a try and boy I'm glad I did! This Marantz receiver outperforms Denon and Yamaha competitors in the same price category.Marantz SR6005 provides very rich and deep sound, which is especially important if you have low or mid-range speakers in your system. Receiver well compensates for the lack of low and treble sounds in modern digital sources. It even has a special feature for that, specifically aiming at MP3, WMA and other digital formats, which lack full spectrum of sound palette.Audissey 6-point sound check system, which customizes sound experience for your room, works nice. With its help you can get every sound from your DVD or digital media player. Variety of inputs and outputs presented in SR6005 will satisfy every need from a satellite box to a PlayStation. A Return to Form
I'm a fan of vintage Marantz stereo equipment, their 60s/70s amps, receivers, and tuners were always well made, elegant, and had a signature warmth sound to them. This was during their Saul Marantz and Superscope days. But in the 80s and 90s they were owned under the Phillips brand, and their gear was never quite the same since; be it quality, tonality, and certainly esthetics. Now a days the company is under D&M Holdings ("D"enon and "M"arantz), and Marantz is bouncing back to it's former self; there's an emphasis being paid again to style (in this case the classic "porthole" design), simplicity (two-knob unit with a concealed interface, logos of features are on the top of the unit as to keep the front face clean-looking), and construction (the sr7005 packs a lot of sound but can fit just about anywhere).Above all, my fellow vinyl purist will be happy to hear, the Marantz SR7005 brings back the MM PHONO STAGE with a ground! For a long time this was taken out...

Classic looks with cutting edge features
I was running my Denon 4802 for about 10 years and finally decided to upgrade to an HDMI switching receiver. I thought about another Denon but love the sound of my Marantz receiver I am running in another/smaller room, SR5003, and thought I would give them a close look as well.Long story short, I settle on the SR7005. I did it not only for sound but also technology. I was kind of surprised to see the Marantz being slightly ahead of the Denon's but not that surprised I suppose since they are owned by the same company. The Marantz has the latest HDMI 1.4a spec which is really nice and includes 3D support. The other thing that sold me on it was the fact that it can do passive HDMI pass-through when in Standby so it doesn't have to be on if you are using it as a switch (I have been waiting for a long time for this feature to start showing up in receivers).Sound quality is top notch as you would expect from a Marantz. The one thing I was hoping for was more...

The Star of the Show
Back in 2000 I purchased my first piece of Marantz equipment, the SR8000 surround receiver. I'd had two other stereo/surround receivers prior and neither were as good as the Marantz. Flash forward to 3 weeks ago when I finally decided to upgrade to the SR7005. I was reluctant to make such a move as I was happy with the SR8000 and the technology always seems to be changing and evolving on new equipment. You never know what is going to stick and what is just the latest gimmick. With the SR7005 though, I realized it had what I'd been waiting for and more. Not only does it give me the ability to stream audio via a computer network, which is the future of music listening, but I can hook up my turntable directly to the receiver to listen to vinyl records, rather than having to use an external phono preamp. One less piece of equipment and set of cables to deal with is definitely a plus.So how does it sound? In one word, magnificent! Watching movies via HDMI lossless audio is far...

Excellent AVR for both music and movies
I recently decided to upgrade my home theater setup, and purchased a Samsung 63" and wanted a home theater to match. Previously, I had just used my TV speakers (granted, my old Sony XBR had far better speakers than most TVs, but still far short of a dedicated setup). I wouldn't describe myself as an audiophile, but I can appreciate good sound ... it's just that my interest lies more in music and film than in the actual audio/video equipment. My media room is 15'x20', and I wanted a system that would be as good for music as for movies.Because of my room layout, I decided I was limited to a 5.1 system. I ordered this Marantz SR5005 receiver along with a 5.1 speaker system from Aperion Audio, going their 5T Hybrid HD system. These particular Aperion speakers are fairly...

"Because Music Matters"
I Purchased the SR5005 to replace a recently deceased 10 year old THX certified receiver, powering Klipsch Reference series speakers, and having several internet-connected devices feeding it content - Xbox360, , and a Home Theater PC.Set up was a breeze. I had never used any of the automatic configuration and set up tools before, so i can't compare it against the competition, but it certainly cut the set up time drastically, although it did take me quite some tinkering to find out how to modify the EQ, etc. after its automatically set. The EQ is quite robust and does let you fully customize each speaker individually if you so wish, although there do not seem to be any DSP settings at all.I tested out all sorts of music from my HTPC and was pleased with everything i heard. Everything...

Best Money Can Buy!
Absolutely love it. Looks very stylish in my room, it brings out the raw quality of your speakers (I had a garbage budget Pioneer receiver and never looking back) and I noticed a night and day difference. I went to Best Buy and actually bought it there because it was on sale, but I got to listen to Michael Buble in concert using the top-of-the-line Denon, Pioneer, and this one. Even the $2000 Denon couldn't compare to this unit and that is my honest opinion. I never in my life heard of this company, but I did some major searching for the best AV Receiver brands and audiophiles turned me on to them. I am very glad I took the time to research because it was well worth the purchase. Very high quality, incredible sound, very easy setup and a good selection of settings to find the best sound for your room or the type of music/movies/games you are listening to. A couple of things that will interest you. One of them is that the setup mic that comes with it is very nice for auto...

MARANTZ still dominates the audio world
This beautiful new receiver is packed with high-end options and the sound quality is nothing short of exemplary. For a full listing of technicals and features, see the site at: [...]. As compared to Yamaha, Onkyo, Denon, and Pioneer, you'll notice a far more "natural" and "forward" sound, whereas the formers are more "punchy", "dark" or "processed". Marantz has been at the business of making receivers in this vein a long time and the 5004 is sure to please even the most discerning audiophiles. Of course, if you have $8K to spend, the Reference series is a nice upgrade. But for us common folk who still appreciate the performance and sound quality that a top-end receiver can produce, this is the one. On the "things to consider side", the SR5004 only has 3 HDMI outputs, so if you're in need of more such connections for your home theater, you might need to consider upgrading to the 6004. All in all, however, you can't beat this receiver for the money. This reviewer recommends pairing it...

Marantz SR5004 Review - It Is Awesome
It is obvious that WDH (a.k.a Winston from AVS Forums) purchased his Marantz Receivers from a "grey-market source" because no authorized dealer would allow someone to return and repurchase the same Marantz Product five times in a row! Frankly, I believe that people should keep their absurd comments to themselves when they buy electronics from non-authorized dealers to save a few bucks. Only an idiot would buy the same receiver five times and then complain all over the internet that is doesn't work right! Marantz is a quality brand with decades of experience making highly regarded products, especially receivers. Marantz is also known for quickly resolving "real issues" with their products and have a long warranty period (3 Years).Anyway, I have owned a Marantz SR5004 since October 2009 - it sounds great and I have had zero problems with it! The legendary Marantz Sound, which is smooth and refined, is definitely in the SR5004. I highly recommend the SR5004 when...

Great Sound, Great Look, Full Featured
This is my second Marantz AV receiver and I am very happy with the brand, sound, look, features and quality. I have been buying Marantz because they seem to do a better job on music than other brands and I AM an audiophile hobbyist. I want my home theater to reproduce music respectably, and this unit does.A surprise bonus - BluRay movie discs have a new audio format that when played via this receiver using HDMI sounds flat out spectacular. There seems to be a rule of thumb in the industry that it is not worth going with BluRay for the image upgrade unless your TV is high def and larger than X inches (where X varies from 32 to 42 depending on taste). Well, IMHO, the sound quality alone of BluRay justifies the upgrade - and also it is just very elegant to use HDMI rather than a gaggle of interconnects. Caveat: Perhaps not all BluRay discs utilize the new audio format, I have not tested enough discs to know.Thumbs up on the receiver.Art

Solid Performance For The Price
I purchased this AVR on Thanksgiving Day, when it had been offered by OneCall (via Amazon.com) for nearly 20% off list price (despite the fact that this unit seems to rarely be discounted on the internet). I waited to review it until I had a chance to set it up with a Panasonic Blu-Ray (BD55) that I received for Christmas (also purchased on Amazon.com). Now that I have had a chance to listen to it with the Blu-Ray as well as listening to it in 2-channel mode (music) I can report that I am very pleased with the sound quality and separation in both 2-channel and my 5.0 setup (no subwoofer is being used). The sound quality in 2-channel was very important to me, and for the price this AVR is a very reasonable choice. My only caution would be that the SR5003 is rated at 90 watts per channel, which is fine for my room size (about 15 x 15) , but may not be enough for larger rooms. Nonetheless, my aging ears (which suffer from a touch of tinnitus from too many concerts in my 20's) do not...

Marantz SR5003 Review
I previously had a McIntosh amplifier (tube) and preamplifier, then a 150 watt Luxman reveiver. The Luxman because of its age started popping in and out of one of the channels. (I am having it restored) I got the Marantz primarily for when I set up my 50" plasma for surround sound. Right now it's pushing two Klipasch Chorus II speakers. The sound is quite good although maybe not quite at the level of the Luxman for classical music which is what I listen most often (I am a trained musician). For AV purposes the Marantz is really well designed with a huge number of configurations. I also I have the XM satellite radio setup which was very easy to connect and make active. The sound is very clean and powerful. The remote is quite well designed and can be used as a universal unit.

Great combination of value, features and performance
I bought this Marantz receiver on sale from OneCall, which I've purchased from before and had very good experiences. It's in a secondary system with a universal DVD/SACD player (connected via HDMI) and a recent addition of a Logitech Squeezebox, and also an external amp driving a biamped set of speakers. It replaced an analog 2 channel preamp because I decided to add a display and needed HDMI switching. I also needed something with the 12 volt DC trigger output to turn on the external amp, which not many receivers have. This is not a very common feature in this price range, and it took me quite a while to find a receiver under $1K which met that along with having a few other must have features. The fact that Marantz has a reputation for giving attention to refining the sound quality of their products helped.I've been very happy with it from a feature standpoint as well as performance. The looks are pretty nice, too. The one operational nitpick I've had is that the menu...
