French Countryside Makes Great, Long-Lasting Dinner Wear
This is my first review for Amazon! That's how much I like this set. I also wanted to share the good experience I had with Amazon.I love, love French Countryside by Mikasa! In my college days when I worked in the bridal department of a department store, we would have tons of brides register for this pattern as well as Italian and English Countryside by Mikasa. I myself ended up with English Countryside. Isn't it funny how your tastes change though? I like the French Countryside so much better now! After about 12 years and 6 moves, most of my English Countryside pieces were missing or broken and I needed a new set. I had always remembered French Countryside, and when I started looking for new china, I choose this one right away.The French Countryside is well made, heavy, and elegant. It can be formal or informal, depending on how you dress it up. Some ladies in other reviews say they dress up the white plates with red table accents at Christmas. They are classic...

Malaysia-made is good but be careful of China-made
I rate the 45 piece so highly because it is really well made. I agree completely with others.However, be careful when buying larger pieces such as the large rectangular serving platter, the large oval serving platter and the 5 piece pasta bowl set. The ones I bought are all made in China and the quality is very different than the quality of this F9000 series. The glazing on the bottom does not cover the bottom edge of the plates (where it sits on a table) This edge is unglazed and rough like "cheap plates" and water can seep in there and go all the way through to the top of the plate. If that water is dirty (like on a countertop) you now have a stain inside the plate, that shows through, that you will not be able to remove. They chip easily, the glazing is uneven, gritty in spots and worst of all, it is a whiter color than the cream colored pieces in the 45 piece Malysian made dishes I have. I love my new dinnerware set!
This was such a bargain at $199. Not only did I get the service for 8, I also got 5 serving pieces. The set of dinnerware arrived promptly....and the shipping was free. On top of that, I got another discount for spending a certain amount of money. It was a much better bargain than eBay!One plate had a slight chip. Amazon was wonderful about compensating me for it with no hassles. Since I can buy more pieces to this set, I was easily able to replace the one plate locally with the money refunded to me. Amazon really stood behind the product. I was very well satisfied with the product and service from Amazon. Thanks!

7 years of use later: still beautiful
My wife and i received a set of Italian Countryside Dinnerware for our wedding back in 2000. Nearly eight years later, they are still as nice as the day we received them. We use them daily, and have found the quality to be very high. The only issue we've had is that the handle of one of the coffee mugs has a crack in it that has caused the handle to start to come loose from the mug. Only one of the mugs developed this problem, so I'd say it is an irregularity not a design issue.I can verify that this is a quality set of dinnerware. If you like the design, you can't go wrong with this set. We also own all of the mixing bowls, large coffee cups and saucers, and two serving trays. All are equally nice and have stood the test of time.

Beautiful but need better packing...
I love the dishes and posted a positive review on the 45-piece set. With this particular item I ordered two sets. The sets were shipped separately and oddly the top salad plate in EACH BOX was broken. Seems like Mikasa needs to re-think the packing for this configuration. (Amazon's outside packaging was good with those air-bubble spacers in the box.)I will add one comment about the size of these dishes. Both the plates and the cereal bowls are OVERSIZED. I was really surprised at the size of the cereal/salad bowls.

I love them... only one little problem
I loved my Italian Countryside set when it arrived, the neutral color without being totally plain was exactly what I wanted, having gotten tired of blue stoneware that clashed dreadfully at the holidays. I unpacked them and washed them and got ready to put them away... and HELLO... the dinner plate won't fit in my older style 12" upper cabinet!! I was standing in the kitchen ready to cry because I thought I was going to have to send them back until my handy husband was able to rout out the back of the cabinet door enough to let them fit. The plates stick out just far enough that the door wasn't closing, so measure your cupboards before ordering. Other than that I like the set very much. A few small flaws in the glaze on the back of the dinner and salad plates but none on the upper surface. I also love having so many other pieces available in the pattern. I am also quite happy that my very hard on the dinnerware husband has not broken or chipped a single dish yet. That is testament to...

Lovely pattern, but big "made in Korea" stamp on every piece
Love this flatware, simple, elegant pattern; nice weight & balance, but on the back of every piece is a "MIKASA Made in Korea" stamp that's way too large to miss. This logo unfortunately detracts from an otherwise versatile design, rendering it inappropriate for anything beyond "everyday-friends & family" use.Mikasa, if you're listening: hiding the tacky logo would be a great way to improve this product's appeal.

Great set of flatware at a great price!
This set of Mikasa flatware is really terrific for a number of reasons:1) It looks great. The pictures shown here on Amazon don't do justice. The flatware has a great luster and is simple, but elegant looking.2) The pieces feel solid. Each of the flatware pieces (especially the knife) has a solid, durable feel to it. Part of this is because the pieces are a bit oversized.3) The price! At $20 a set, this is really a steal.OK. Those are the good points... but there are a couple of tradeoffs. Here are a few negative points (although they are relatively minor):1) The pieces are 18/8 steel. This is lower quality steel than 18/10. Although the pieces are made in Korea (which has better steel production than China), the steel itself is not "premium" quality.2) All the pieces have "Mikasa" (as well as "Made in Korea" and "18/8") PRINTED on the metal, rather than stamped. I was looking to replace my Mikasa dishes or add to my current stash,and found my pattern was no longer available. A whole new set would have been very expensive. I just needed plates and bowls.
