my favorite tool
I have used the former model of the Porter Cable 5" random orbital sander for over 15 years. It has begun to get bit louder so I decided to order another one in case this one dies or needs to be repaired. I use this tool almost every time I am in the wood shop. It truly is my favorite tool and I have hundreds of tools. This new sander is almost identical to the old one, cosmetically it is a little different but runs the same. Interestingly, it is just as loud as my old one, so now I have two. I'm not saying that this tool is overly loud, it is just that the old one is louder than it used to be. I find this tool to be handy for almost any sanding project that I have. Because of the orbiting feature the sanding scratches are much easier to remove with the next sandpaper grade than they would be with a vibrating sander or one without this feature. I have found some tool companies to be far superior to others and Porter Cable is one of those. I will give this sander my highest...

Great Sander
I bought this as a replacement for my "lighter duty" orbital sander. The sander works terrific. I prefer the 5". I do not buy precut psa discs. I cut the rectangular full sheets into 4 pieces and using Elmer's spray adhesive "attach" it to the sander. The cut sheet does not quite cover the entire pad but this does not seem to affect the sanding. This also allows me to use different abrasives for different jobs. I even use 400 & 600 grit wet/dry to sand between clear coat finishes. The hardware stores do not always have the precut sanding discs in the grit that I want. The stores do however, always have an assortment of different sandpaper in full sheets.

short life
Great powerful sander. Cant do exterior painting/prep work without one. They tend to burn out fast though. The on/off switch goes, the main bearing goes, and the brushes tend to go. I have about 12 dead model 7335 sanders. But, they work so well, I just keep getting more when I need to. They dont cost as much as others and are 4.3 amps. Enough power to sand rough painted surfaces. Also, can be used with a dust collector attachment and HEPA vacum for lead paint and other nasty stuff.
