Love this pot. Staub gets better the more you cook in it.
The thing about this Staub cookware that you might like best is no matter what you paid for it, you won't be disappointed-because in the end it works to perfection and looks beautiful. Being a fairly habitual bargain hunter I am always looking to save on what I buy. These coq au vin/dutch oven/french oven pieces that I cook with work so well that even if I didn't get the perfect bargain, I know that they are worth what I paid for them each time I make something with them. Easy and the food flavors are enhanced in the process. Try one. Get a roast, throw in some veggies and your favorite seasonings, put it in the oven or on the stovetop, turn it on low...a couple hours later you have some good grub. Cleans up almost like nonstick without having to worry about eating the nonstick at some time. I like the beauty of these in the kitchen, too. The colors are not overwhelming, just cheery and are in graduated shades-a nice added touch to cast iron oven perfection. I like the 5-litre size...

Fabulous Staub Cocotte
I absolutely love this pot! Not only is it beautiful it cooks evenly, browns food wonderfully and leaves a nice fond in the bottom of the pan. A bargain for the serious cook, or those that just want a superior pot for braising, roasting and stewing.

Wonderful - If You Get One That Is Well Built...
I am trying very hard to like Staub as much as Le Creuset. I have ordered many Staub products and almost all have been exchanged because they broke or were poorly constructed. Amazon is always amazing at making sure I am satisfied, but Staub really needs to step up their QC. When I received this 5 3/4 qt Grenadine Cocotte I was blown away at how nice it looked. Really a stunning piece. I looked over every square inch to make sure it was in perfect condition. Sadly, there was a chip in the lid which penetrated the enamel and caused the lid to rust.I feel it cooks as well, if not a little better than my round Le Creuset French oven. The thicker layer of iron never burns anything and creates a nice fond. The lid, though heavier than the Le Creuset's, was not a better sealing lid.I promptly received a free replacement from Amazon (+ a $10 gift card!), but the replacement piece was an absolute travesty. I have no idea how it even left Staub's factory. There...

Solid
I've owned 4 different brands of Dutch/French ovens (Better Homes and Garden, Tramontina, Le Creuset, and Staub). This Staub is my favorite. My first Staub was too big at 12.75 quarts, and oval so that it required two burners. I wanted a smaller dutch oven so I got this smaller, round one that only requires one burner. The enamel is black matte all over (inside and out), except for an additional dark bluish-black ceramic coating on the bottom so as to not damage either the pot or your glass or induction stovetops, and possibly bare cast iron rims (too hard to tell if they have enamel over the rims, so I seasoned them anyway, just in case). I think the black is very sexy looking. It's also not completely smooth, so over time it will build up seasoning, similar to a naked (unenameled) cast iron. It's not rough, just not 100% smooth. The weirdest part about this oven is the metrics. It says 11cm diameter on the pot, but after that it is inconsistent. The box says...

This cocotte is a must have. It's multipurpose, gorgeous looking and heavy as hell) The fact that it's become only better each time I use it is very exciting. love it!

Love it!
Face it. A cooking pot this expensive is a total splurge; but I love it. It requires extra care in terms of seasoning, cleaning, and cooking. But it's so worth it. I love watching the celery, carrots, and olive oil sizzling away while I prepare a chicken and a bit of bacon for browning and then stewing. The smells of the veggies, the oil, the meats...it's all worth it. So, it's my All-Clad and this Staub pot forever.

Beautiful workhorse!
I have to admit, having used Le Creuset for years, I didn't hold out much hope that this pot - gifted to me - could possibly be an improvement. The things that I value in an enameled pot were there: heavy enameled, cast iron construction; oven-proof handle; even heat distribution; gas stove-top to oven ease. But that lid? It just didn't seem like it would make that much difference. Boy! Am I happy to be proved wrong! This pot has out-performed my Le Creuset repeatedly in the two weeks that I've put it through its paces. Sautéeing, braising, stewing, oven-baked casseroles, soup; you name it, this pot has done an exceptional job. Those little bumps on the lid keep everything so much more moist. Also, there is virtually no loss of liquid volume with the lid on. It's an incredibly tight seal. The clean-up is a breeze! And, esthetically, the grenadine glaze is gorgeous! It is so worth the price, I just purchased the 8 quart round Cocotte for large-batch...

Better than Le Creuset
Owning both Le Creuset products and now Staub, my Staub has quickly become my favorite enameled cast iron pot, FAR surpassing Le Creuset in quality and usability. The metal handle is the first, most obvious difference and I almost purchased the item based on that fact alone. It's easy to grab even with pot holders and the design of the lid makes the lid-handle transition area seamless - unlike LC. The LC knob is oven safe to 450 or so, but I like the reassurance of metal. Besides it looks nicer. The next obvious difference is the design of the lid. First, the lid fits tightly and more snugly than LC. It is flat on top rather than domed. Second, the self-basting spikes, while not exactly as revolutionary as they claim, are a nice addition and work relatively well when stove top braising (in oven braising it doesn't seem to make as much difference because of the all-around heat). Third, is the interior of the pot. It is a black matte finish with a little bit of texture to it. I like...

Best Enameled cast Iron Cocotte ever
I bought the 5 Quart to try when it was a lightning deal on Amazon and was highly impressed. Not only does it look better than Le Creuset it performs better. The lid fits better and the color is outstanding: grenadine in my case. Staub is a little heavier than Le Creuset but I think this speaks about Staub's quality. And speaking of Amazon, I had a problem with a 8 quart I bought. They replaced it free with no hassles. This is serious cookware. I highly recommend Staub and Amazon.

"Cocotte" in French means "casserole," but there are a multitude of dishes that emerge delectably from Staub's signature French oven. This attractive 5-quart cocotte, available in an array of rich colors, is an ideal choice for slow-cooked stews and soups, casseroles, and roasted meats, as well as many other one-pot meals. Measuring 10-1/4 inches in diameter, the cocotte is constructed of durable cast iron with a black matte enameled interior and an enameled ceramic finish that extends to the pot and lid edges to prevent chipping and rusting. And with its decorative design, it serves as beautifully as it cooks.

Designed for oven or stovetop use, the cocotte features a smooth, heavy earthenware base that will never warp and can handle any cooking surface, including glass, induction, and convection. Like the pot itself, the handles and lid are cast iron for durability and even heat distribution and retention (handles and brass or stainless steel lid knobs do get hot, so use caution). The lid features innovative self-basting spikes to continually redistribute juices back to the ingredients as they cook. The black-matte enameled interior doesn't need seasoning and, as cooking oils seep into the pores over time, will become a self-seasoned, non-stick surface. Oven-safe to 500 degrees F, Staub's French oven doesn't need high heat and so should be used on low to medium settings. For best care, use with silicone or wooden utensils and wash by hand with non-abrasive cleaners. The cocotte comes with a limited lifetime warranty. Made in France.

I use it all the time.
I bought this pot to make No-Knead Bread in. I bought a bread machine instead and never looked back. But now I had this small pot sitting in my kitchen. Since I am single it turns out I use it to boil water for spaghetti, and about everything else I can think of. Staub is very very good product. It has the lid with the dimples so that it bastes with the moisture inside. You too will love it or any Staub product.

tiny but only $5 more than Le Creuset's stoneware ramekin
How's that for a spendthrift rationalization? I'm not purchasing this because of issues with spendthriftiness and hoarding.I think the brass knob with the yellow is so pretty and cheerful like a little bird. It will really dress up the table and usually I don't care but I love the combination of sturdiness and tininess. The mini cocottes sold faster than the 2 quart size. I know that some expensive restaurants are using them but I wonder what is most effectively served in them. A truly delectable glutinous rice recipe? Individual pots of melted cheese? An amazing pan that will serve you for a lifetime
If you aren't already addicted to Staub yet, one purchase will convert you. This is a beautiful pot with a gorgeous enamel, beautiful color, clearly well made, and made to last several lifetimes. It is made in France, and each mold is used only once, so this is certainly not a "high production factory" turning out these pans. Yet I would argue that it is affordable for many people, especially considering that you will never have to replace it again. [Just don't drop it :)]. It is black inside, but this black matte is treated cast iron that does not need to be seasoned like plain ole' cast iron does. The bottom of the pan is a beautiful blueish color that I assume is the same on all of their pans. I'm not good with the technical details but all of the elements of the pan are designed to make your meal turn out delicious. The advantage of Staub over Le Creuset is more one of personal taste, but I will note that their silver knobs are oven safe whereas Le Creuset's plastic ones...
